Doesn’t care about his patients
Total lack of sympathy or empathy for the sudden loss of my daughter. When confronted, he was angry and would shake his head no when nurse asked him quietly if he “wasn’t going to tell me”. Since I assumed it was a high blood pressure reading, I went into Urgent Care next morning where they immediately called an ambulance and I was admitted to hospital for dangerously high blood pressure. Obviously, if he gets angry with you he would just as soon let you die. That’s how petty he is.

Unless you are ok with seeing a NP
Been a pt 5+ years and have only seen him once, all the other times saw the NP and she does not have the time. Will not call you back and when she did she was RUDE she said I am taking time away from my other pts. Made it sound like I did not matter. Well GOODBYE I have found another MD that does not use NPS as I am a RN if I wanted to see a nurse I would look in the mirror and not have to pay for a MD visit

Dr. Hugo is a great family doctor.
I’m amazed that Dr. Hugo has some negative reviews. My appointment with him in April 2023 was scheduled within a week. The front desk ladies were polite and thorough in gathering my information. I entered the examining room at exactly my appointment time and Stephanie immediately took my vitals and other health details while entering the information on her tablet. Upon leaving the room, she said Dr. Hugo would be in to see me shortly. And he did just that, within 7 minutes. Dr. Hugo covered everything and more concerning the reason for my visit. He then had me tell him all about my health concerns. I was never rushed. Then he went over each item and gave his opinions and advice, all in a friendly and concise manner that I could fully understand. After he left, Stephanie returned and drew blood for a lab workup. Everything went great at this office visit with Dr. Hugo. He seems to be a perfect family doctor. 5 stars!

Really???
I am dumbfounded by these negative reviews. I took my elderly mother in law to see Dr. Hugo for many years. Then when I needed a doctor, he wasn't taking new patients, but took me anyway. Dr. Hugo, assistant Stephanie, and staff have been nothing but phenomenal for years. I've been there three dozen times or more between my mother in law and myself. He will always sit there and listen to you attentively, answer questions, until you are out of questions. Sometimes I feel bad because I know he has other waiting patients I've been to doctors that make you feel like cattle going through a turnstile. Not Dr. Hugo. That's probably what lead to most of these complaints. Long wait times etc... I guess if you want it fast and don't mind being treated like cattle, then just go somewhere else.

Saved my life
Dr. Justin Hugo saved my life when recently admitted to hospital from a Open Reduction/Internal Fixation Surgery. I fell and fractured all bones in ankle. I was placed on the rehab floor. The hospitalist saw me for 5 minutes and discontinued ALL medications I have taken for 8 years. Which included Xanax and Paroxetine and other important medications which I had been hospitalized before for not taking correct dosage (my fault). I have been precise in taken correct dosage since. I started having seizures within 24 hours after discontinuing my meds. .I was placed in ICU. I continued in ICU with seizures for 2 and a half days.Even though Dr. Hugo does not have privileges at Mercy South he called on continuous basis to inform doctors how to get me recovered. Upon entering my room doctors would say "I was sent by Dr. Hugo". What a relief to know such a professional, caring doctor was overseeing my care. When I was in rehab he continued continuous contact. Thank you Dr. Hugo and staff.

Same as other 1 star reviews. Never saw Dr Hugo for 10 years. Saw his Physicians assistant (4stars). Never realized how little they cared until I changed to a new practice and saw a very competent Doctor. Don’t bother, try another practice.

Similar to other reviews, I was very happy with Dr Hugo when I initially met him at my first appointment a few years ago. But after that visit, you’ll find it takes months to get in to see him. They will want you use to use the physicians assistant, Stephanie, who is probably the most arrogant and rude person I’ve ever met in my life. The ladies at the front desk are lazy and act like they’re doing you a huge favor to do their job. I liked Hugo but I’m switching doctors due to these issues

I am an established patient and it takes 5-6 months to see the doctor. The office staff always pushes seeing the nurse practitioner who I am not comfortable with. You do not get your lab results unless you follow up and even when they are abnormal the NP says everything is ok! dr hugo may be great, who knows, you never see him and because of that I would steer clear of this office.
