Very poor communications skills
Doesn't explain or even give clear diagnosis. Doesn't respond to questions. She works in a factory or X-rays, injections, operations. money money money. But very little science or thinking.

AMAZING!! Recommend to everyone!!
She is the most caring doctor I have ever met and worked hard to find a diagnosis for me after seeing dozens of doctors have just passed me off to the next. I feel like it’s a new day for me and it’s all because of Dr. Iafrate. She also has amazing bedside manner and is a genuinely kind person and fabulous doctor!

Not a great experience
Went in for hip pain. She did an X-ray and some physical tests and couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. She also had a bit of a mean girl attitude about her. Got charged a small fortune. Money wasted. Then went to another Dr. and turns out it was my SI joint. Not sure why Dr. Lafrate couldn't diagnose me when it seems like that's her area of expertise, but I wouldn't recommend her based off my experience.

Sought help with hip pain that interrupted my career as a dancer and had an incredibly disappointing and expensive experience. She was very cold and dismissive, her tone of voice made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. When I questioned something she became very defensive. Eventually said my only option was surgery. I walked out crying. Then got a bill for $750 that even after asking for an itemized bill was explained as 'visit'.

Fixed both of my knees
Dr.Iafrate, is compassionate and professional. I've had bilateral chronic pain in my knees for over 15 years. She was able to help me get back to a high functioning athletic lifestyle, which I thought I wasn't ever going to be able to do again. Very good with Tenex procedure outcomes and knows her stuff. If you have chronic tendinopathies and you've been getting the run around with no solution besides, rehab and having to change lifestyle...then you go see Dr.Iafrate.

Best orthopedist experience I’ve had.
I’m always dealing with some sports injury or another and have been to several orthopedists, and Dr. Iafrates has been by far the best experience. In our consult she was knowledgeable and confident and suggested the tenex procedure for my tendon injury, which fixed it better and more quickly than I had been told was possible, this after half a year of my failing to fix it through PT, which had been the extent of my previous orthopedist’s recommendation. My faith in her skill and knowledge is absolute, and I plan to go to her for any sports injuries I sustain in the future. Thanks for making me well doc.

Life Changing
I came to Dr. Iafrate last year with an unusual combination of low back pain and leg pain symptoms. After a physical exam and some testing she noticed a slight abnormality in my lower spine (for context: I'd had plenty of imaging done on my back throughout my athletic career). She told me that this abnormality, combined with the extreme stiffness in my lumbar spine was signaling that I may have the autoimmune condition, ankylosing spondylitis. After more testing it was confirmed that she was SPOT ON, and apparently I'd had the condition for over a decade, but it had been misdiagnosed previously as general lower back soreness by a number of other practitioners. Two weeks after beginning medication for this condition and my back pain was gone, completely, after years of mild to moderate low back pain throughout my 20s, which I just wrote off as 'the cost of being an athlete'. I'm back to competing at a high level in weightlifting, and cannot thank or recommend Dr. Iafrate enough!

Truly gifted physician
I was so fortunate to find Dr. Iafrate. I came to her after being unexpectedly injured. She took an interest not only in addressing my immediate injury, but also in the underlying weakness issues that potentially contributed to the condition. Dr. Iafrate methodically addressed the short term issues, and also took the time to write for a series of thoughtful referrals, to be sure I received the care I needed. She listened carefully and spent considerable time with me. She could not have been more wonderful; after dealing with a chronic, unrecognized condition for years, she was the doctor who recognized it and got me on the path I needed. Dr. Iafrate could not have treated me with greater attention and kindness if I had been her own family. She has my deep gratitude.

After seeing SEVERAL doctors last year to address severe pain in my knee, foot, and ankle, Dr. Iafrate properly diagnosed and treated the problem. Her exam was incredibly thorough - providing her w/ information needed to fix the problems. Excellent interpersonal skills. Have recommended her to several of my colleagues and friends. She's a huge asset to NYU Langone.

Had a painful sports injury and thankfully was able to schedule a first time visit with Dr. J. She's a star! She explained everything so clearly, she has incredible bedside manner, and an obvious passion and enthusiasm for her work. And somehow (and I know this sounds extreme) she made a stressful situation fun. I'm so happy I found her and appreciative of the whole vibe in her office.

Love Dr. Iafrate, she takes the time to listen to what I have to say. She suggested a PRP procedure for my chronic hip and performed it in November 2020. She told me it would take 3-4 months to see results, if it was to work. At 3 months to the day, I felt great. I had significant reduction in my pain and was actually able to sleep on my side for the first time in years!! So happy that she suggested it and took the time to explain every step of the procedure. She is the best!!!!

Dr.Iafrate performed the Tenex procedure on my shoulder to remove painful calcium deposits and treat my tendenosis and bursitis . She was very thorough in her examination , very caring , compassionate , and competent . She takes an interest in her patients and their families that is not a usual occurrence from my experience with other physicians. The procedure saved me from going under the knife and a more extensive recovery period . She also administered two PRP injections to help quicken the recovery and small tears in the rotator cuff . My pain level is low compared to before the procedure and strength is coming back slowly . Shoulders tendons don't have much blood supply so patience is a virtue in dealing with a longer recovery period than for other injuries. I would recommend Dr. Iafrate for any sports related injury. Her background in dance brings a complete perspective on sports injuries and conservative treatment options available. I would see her again in heartbeat if needed .

I only waited 3 minutes past my appointment time, which really is nothing when speaking of doctors and their schedules. She got straight to the issue and discussed treatment options. She was really kind and gave a very thorough / thoughhtful recommendation. She is down to earth, listens, and always has a game-plan for next steps. I was very impressed with her and my visit. I would highly recommend her.

I was referred to Dr. Iafrate from another sports medicine physiatrist in the ColumbiaDoctors group. Dr. J has extensive experience and expertise caring for athletes and professional dancers. I am neither, but wanted to be treated like a professional for a longstanding tendonosis problem (that providers at HSS were unable to help me with - PRP didn't help at all). Dr. J listened, carefully examined me, and thouroughly discussed treatment options including pros and cons. I had a fantastic result following the tenotomy procedure.

Dr. Iafrate is easily one of the most expert and caring doctors I have ever seen. (And my gosh have I seen a lot of doctors.) I spent a year with constant nerve pain in my shoulder from a mysterious shoulder injury. I couldn't move my arm, I would get numbness and shooting pains. I couldn't sleep or exercise. I have bipolar depression, so the pain and lack of sleep were severely impacting my life. I almost lost my job. I had a relationship end. I was in a very dark and dangerous place. Over the course of that year, I saw 4 different specialists. None of them could agree and they kept bouncing me back and forth. None of it was helping. All of it was expensive. And I was spiraling. Finally, when one of the doctors went on maternity leave, I was transferred to Dr. Iafrate. In the first appointment, she had identified the underlying problem and scheduled a procedure for a few days later. At the second appointment, she gave me a series of shots that immediately released most of the tens

I will ditto all the positive statements about her. She leaves no stone unturned in trying to diagnose your problem, and is very caring. I even sent my son to her who also had a positive experience, and is on the road to recovery. There is one problem - it is very difficult to get through to make an appointment, and it takes her quite awhile to respond to emails.
