Thank you Dr. Prieto
Thank you Dr. Prieto for your hard-work, skill, and patience. At 2 yrs old my son Benjamin was diagnosed with severe hydronephrosis with a ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction. I struggled to cope with this diagnosis, and the fear of future health complications for Benjamin. Thankfully during our consultation Dr. Prieto was able to calm my nerves and deliver a plan of action. Benjamin’s surgery went extremely well and he had zero complications during his post op care. Today Benjamin is a happy healthy 4 year old boy. I’m grateful to have had the help of Dr. Prieto. I highly recommend Dr. Prieto as a provider. He helped my family and I know he can help yours too.

Poor bedside manner with kids
I’ve seen emergency care clinic physicians with more respect for their patients. My son is 9 and Dr Prieto came in and within 3 min of asking me what was going on told my son to pull down his pants. He said, “I’m the doctor, and that’s your mom so you’re fine.” That was it- no introduction or setting my son at ease. He interrupted me, and seemed very dismissive until I told him my son had been vomiting from the pain the night I took him to the clinic. When I tried to describe what the ultrasound tech had suggested, he said he has more experience and I should listen to him. I was just trying to relay all the information I’d received up to taking him to his office.

Least effective urologist I’ve seen
Dr. Prieto performed a pyeloplasty on me some years ago and did a remarkably poor job. His practice partner, Dr. Leslie, had to operate shortly after to actually repair the issue. I’ve seen four separate urologists over ten years for a recurring issue, and Prieto was the worst of them— the only one who could not solve a medically common issue even after an operation. Prieto was unfortunately the first and dragged his feet, leaving me with a permanently enlarged kidney. It functions just fine, but appears strangely on imaging and impacts renal scans nearly a decade later. The other urologists I would see down the line repaired nearly identical obstructions with fewer visits and just one operation, but Prieto’s hesitance and lack of skill prolonged a minor issue (that took mere weeks to solve next time) for months.

Dr. Prieto treated our daughter for hydronephrosis of the right kidney. He was patient and compassionate as we waited until she was 2 to decide to move to surgery. His bedside manner was great, allowing us to understand that it was best to wait to take action (it could clear on its own) but not hiding that surgery was a likely outcome. His surgery skills healed our daughter - and she’s doing fantastic. It’s always felt as though he truly cared for our daughter and family. I’d highly recommend him.

We took our 6yr old daughter to consult with Dr. Prieto for possible kidney stones. Dr. Prieto was very informative wasted no time in ordering tests to see what was going on with our little one. We were able to get everything done that same day. Dr. Prieto saw us a couple of hours later to discuss the results. Great bedside manners, and great with kids. Definitely worth the 4 hr drive we did. By the way his staff was great with getting us an appointment within 24hrs and very friendly.

Two of my children required surgery for kidney reflux. One was much more complicated than the other; however, because of Dr. Prieto's skillful knowledge, excellent explanations and his willingness to strategize about available operation methods; speaks volume about his egoless character, his profesionialism, and his compassion for his work, which resulted in 2 successful outcomes. My wife and were lucky to have found him. We are forever grateful and recommend him to ALL who will listen.

My wife and I are extremely happy to have met Dr. Prieto. Our son was diagnosed with a hypospadias as an infant. Prior to the surgery, Dr. Prieto was very thorough in explaining the diagnosis and procedure that he was going to perform. He has excellent bedside manners and demonstrated the utmost compassion towards our son. The surgery was 100% success and we were very pleased with the outcome. Dr. Prieto is an amazing pediatric urologist/surgeon and we would highly recommend him!

Dr. Prieto has such a great attitude, he’s very optimistic with any given situation. He’s been my brothers doctor for about 3 years now and he has changed his life with his ability to perform as a doctor and as a person. He was very welcoming and caring to my family and that’s what you should always see. He gives his undivided attention to his patients and families. Best Urologist in San Antonio!

Mr. Prieto (because to me he doesn't deserve the title of doctor) is very rigid in his interaction with me during my visit with my son. He was not open to understanding the questions I was asking or to understand our situation. He undermined me as a parent in front of my son and I feel he clearly overstepped his bounds as a physician. Do yourself a favor and find a different pediatric urologist.

If you’re in pain and male, he’ll tell you “don’t be a sissy” and to simply ignore the pain. We were told that the surgery “went well [and] there should be no pain,” yet soon learned another operation was required. They advertise compassion, a characteristic he seems to lack. Talks about you with his fellow workers within earshot, saying rather unkind things.
