Dr Welsh is the best!
I’ve been coming to Dr Welsh for years. After my annual appointment and mammogram- everything seemed fine. I felt a lump 6 months later, she got me right in and referred me for an ultrasound. She got the ball rolling went it came back as invasive lobular carcinoma. She referred me to a surgeon and I was very well taken care of. I ended up having a double mastectomy and had to have radiation. She sent me to a radiation doctor that she personally knew. It was a very hard situation but I am grateful for her care and I respect her advice.

She failed to do a biopsy for endometrial cancer
I've gone to Dr. Welsh for years for standard checkups. But the last time was for abnormal bleeding (was in menopause). She noticed the bleeding during the exam and sent me for an ultrasound. The cancer was hiding behind a large fibroid so the radiologist did not detect it. Rather than explore further, Dr. Welsh just gave me a rx for progesterone (terrible for cancer) and failed to do a biopsy. I got a second opinion and the other ob-gyn was very surprised she failed to do one. It significantly delayed my eventual hysterectomy and likely increased my risk for an already rare, high-risk endometrial cancer type. Time to retire, Dr. Welsh???

Having several years experience in the medical field MYSELF, here is my honest opinion: Joy Welsh is another gaslighting, dismissive physician, better suited for retirement. Her medical knowledge is extremely out of date. She has an attitude about answering questions, and demonstrated poor communication with her staff on more than one occasion. No one in the office was aware of the reason for my appointment on either visit. Joy talks most of the time, and is UNABLE TO LISTEN to the patient. She was completely dismissive of the pain I’ve been experiencing. She wasted my time with unnecessary testing due to her inability to listen. Her LACK OF KNOWLEDGE postponed my diagnosis and PROLONGED MY PAIN. It was my error to assume her experience was an indication she would be a good physician. I WAS SO WRONG.

I came to see Dr. Welsh after I was mostly recovered from a hysterectomy, but still experiencing painful sex. During the pelvic exam, Dr. Welsh was very abrupt and very Rough. She did not give me any kind of verbal cues before inserting her hand or instruments into my vagina. The whole exam was very painful and I was trying to hold back tears. At one point she left the room with a heavy metal speculum hanging out of my vagina, and came back a few minutes later and treated me with a silver nitrate treatment (to burn off granulated tissue) without even getting my consent first. She also missed the fact that I had a pretty severe infection.

I went to Dr. Welsh in Feb. 2018 for a pap smear because of my family history of uterine cancer. Dr. Welsh did a culture for STD's without my consent and I had to pay for this test out of pocket. The pap smear was submitted to Medicare with the wrong code and in spite of calling Dr. Welsh's office several times about this, I had to pay for the pap smear out of pocket. I was assured that the charge would be resubmitted with the proper code yet it was resubmitted with the same code. I will never return to this physician.

I saw Dr. Welch in 2007. We had reason to believe because of an MRI that I had an ovarian cyst. She sent me across the hall to have a blood tests done including a CA 125. When the CA 125 came elevated, she immediately gave me two referrals and the one I chose was the Huntsman Cancer Center in SLC. The reason I have so much respect for Dr. Welsh is that she did not attempt to handle this alone, although I know some OB-GYNs who might have. I then went to Andrew Soisson, MD and had a very thorough surgery that included complete pelvic wash, removal of ovaries, about half of my colon, uterus and "anything else that did not look pink and healthy." I returned to Dr. Welsh to express my appreciation to her and let her know the results. She was at all times, professional, compassionate, and thorough, but she did not talk down to me. It turned out the cyst was benign, but the cancer was in the appendix. I will always be grateful to Dr Welsh for getting me quickly to a surgeon

If you are a new patient with an emergency don't bother to get in early. There is no compassion in this office. You will be told there is nothing they can do. I called another doctors office and was told she would work on getting this "new patient " in ASAP. She called back within the hour and had me an appointment the next day. NOW THAT IS COMPASSION and a doctors office I want to go too.
