Mom in Failing Health
My 85 year old mom's physical and mental health and has greatly deteriorated since she had knee replacement surgery. She was perfectly fine and living independently prior to the surgery. She has been in a nursing home for 2 months recuperating and has made very little progress . The effects of the anesthesia has worsened her dementia symptoms. She cannot eat, cannot speak and it seems that she is giving up on life. Thank you Dr. Carothers for making my mom's life miserable. I am heartbroken and saddened that you would encourage an 85 year old woman with dementia to proceed with the surgery.

Outstanding!
Dr. Carothers replaced my left knee in November 2021. Every aspect of the experience exceeded my expectations. My pain level after the surgery was low and my recovery was swift and without any complications. I have to attribute much of that to Dr. Carothers and his talented staff. In addition to the expert medical care I received, Dr. Carothers and his staff helped me navigate through the myriad of paperwork, insurance, and associated medical tests and appointments. I highly recommend Dr. Carothers and his staff. I've already scheduled by second knee replacement!

Dr. Carothers replaced my knee, and I had three meetings with him in conjunction with this procedure. Each of these visits was rushed, and Dr. Carothers showed little interest in listening to my concerns. He seems to have done a good job with my knee replacement, but, if I were to do it again, I would seek a doctor who sincerely listens to, and addresses, his patients' concerns.

I first met Dr. C. ten yrs. ago. At the time, I was impressed by the amount of time he spent with me. Fast forward to 5/2021 and things have changed. Surgery was scheduled for 9/2021. Due to a problem with obtaining medical clearance, date changed to October. When I requested to speak to Dr. C., his med assistant, Laura refused to transfer me. Late August, when I called to discuss the October date, Laura was completely in the dark--had not made note of the change. I was advised that surgery could not take place before December. At this point, I contacted another surgeon. I write this because I don't want anyone else to experience what I've experienced. Dr. C. never showed any concern, and I certainly never received an apology. As a result of their incompetence, I have had to wait for 7 months for badly needed surgery. To this crew, you are just a number!!!

The doctor didn't show up to scheduled appointment and refused to discuss test findings. All communication was mishandled through assistants who mostly confused critical medical information and wasted my time.

Dr. Carothers replaced my right knee after it had been replaced by another surgeon several months earlier who just didn't get it right. I have had no problems with it since and am very happy with his work and expertise! I have recommended another knee patient to him and they are very pleased with their knee replacement experience too. It is wonderful to have such competent care available!

I chose Dr. Carothers because of the high reviews. Prior to total knee replacement surgery, I only saw him for a 8 minute chat and it was agreed I would have an epidural block and not general anesthesia. The morning after surgery I was told I had gen anesthesia because my leg moved right before he started cutting. 12 days post surgery the bandage and staples were removed and the physical therapist was shocked that so few staples were used to close the incision, leaving large gaps. I was told that a minimum of 30 staples should have been used. The incision opened and drained for 5 days before I could get in to see the PA (Tyler). He said he'd never seen anything like it in his 14 years of practice. It has been 3 months now and I am left with a wicked, crooked scar, although my knee operates well. I will not use Dr. Carothers when it's time to have my other knee replaced.

I was not looking forward to having my knee replaced or even touched. I was a 71 yr. old male with problems with my right knee. I asked a number of people who worked there if they could recommend a doctor who besides being good had a good all around reputation. Dr. Carothers exceeded it all. I don't even know my knee was replaced except for the slight clicking when I move it a certain way. It difficult to put one's hands in a doctors care but he's exceeds all of my expectations.

Dr Carothers is an excellent doctor and surgeon! He is very professional, yet a good listener and very caring. He is patient and answers questions clearly. He replaced both of my knees, one at a time within four months. The outcome has been wonderful, but prehab and rehabilitation exercises are essential! I can now crawl on the ground with my grandchildren or do floor exercises. I would highly recommend New Mexico Orthopaedics, specifically Dr. Carothers, for any knee problems you have! M.L.

Dr. Carothers performed a complete knee replacement over three years ago. Ever since then my life has never been the same. I hurt day and night, need to use a walker, had to resign my employment and was left disabled. In the posted reviews I only see the ones that are singing his praises. What happens to the people like myself. I posted one before telling about the pain and suffering which I am still enduring but it was never posted. They post only the goods ones. Where is the justice

Dr. Carothers performed two total knee replacements on me three months ago. The thought of getting both knees replaced at the same time felt quite daunting to me. However, after my initial meeting with Dr. Carothers, I felt very lucky to have found such a stellar surgeon. I found him to be very knowledgeable, supportive, focused and on point. Dr. Carothers fully addressed my questions and concerns along with putting me at ease. Stellar doctor, great staff - all went extremely well! Thank you!

I felt comfortable with Dr. Carothers at the first appointment. He spent the time necessary to answer my questions about hip replacement, why he felt the posterior procedure was preferable to anterior procedure and offered to set up an appointment with a surgeon that did perform the anterior procedure. Since the surgery I have had no ill effects and the pain has been completely alleviated. In addition, he corrected the length of my leg that had been causing knee and back pain.
