Medical gas lighting, refusal to treat
I recently visited the ER, concerned about potential long QT syndrome. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Joseph Freedman was deeply upsetting and unprofessional.Dr. Freedman confirmed through test results that I had long QT syndrome but dismissed it as “not severe enough” to warrant treatment. Despite this, he later denied having said I had the condition and accused me of “playing with words.” His behavior became temperamental, and he treated me with condescension throughout the visit. What I found particularly disturbing was the level of medical gaslighting. Dr. Freedman minimized my symptoms, dismissed my concerns, and wrote in my medical chart that I was a hypochondriac, undermining my credibility and ignoring the reality of my condition. His actions delayed proper care and left me feeling dehumanized and emotionally drained. No patient should have to endure this type of treatment. Dr. Freedman’s behavior needs to be investigated and addressed.

Poor Patient Care
Dr. Freedman was not understanding with a 3.5 year old who needed stitches in her finger. He called this mother adversial as he priorly stated I was upset and I was visibly crying because they gave her a pain medication via nose spray 3 different times and she still felt the poke of the stitches and was jerking. Additionally with this nose spray she dry heaved, had jittery eyes, and was cooing multiple times and didn’t not understand nor take the time to understand why I was so upset or concerned. We agreed to her having a shot medication on each thigh and three pokes later (was only suppose to be two) she still was alert enough to swat away a plastic tube another doctor was putting on her nose. The doctor came in and I said before you undress that (this was the fourth attempt) she just reacted to having tube up her nose. He said in a raised tone “well what do you want to do here just dress it!?” I agreed because they tortured my kiddo enough and I felt like they were to OD my child.

Doctor Complaint – Mar 26, 2024

Poor patient care
Pt was admitted to the emergency department with a dislocation injury and obvious deformation after a fall. Dr Freedman was rude and short with the pt throughout the examination then refused pain management prior to pt release. When this issue was brought up to Dr Freedman by hospital staff, as well as the family, Dr Freedman again refused to provide any pain management treatment. Dr Freedman appeared to be threatened when other medical providers asked questions as to why standard pt care for a traumatic injury was not being observed by him. After follow up contacts with the hospital, it was indicated that he takes things very personally when asked/questioned about his patient care. Based on 18 years in emergency medical care, I have seen a few 'providers' like him, and Its very disappointing. Perhaps he may be competent in some areas of practice, but pt interaction, and compassion are definitely areas he is woefully lacking in during this interaction.
