Unprofessional office
I had emergency surgery with Dr. Sacksner a little over a year ago. He was fine overall, didn't seem particularly caring or engaged but I survived, so I guess it was okay. But I've been making payments on my bill with him ever since (because of course he charged me separately from the hospital and then there were separate bills from the anesthesia and various others, what a healthcare system!) BUT often they don't even answer the phone at his office and don't even have a voicemail, so calling to make payments proved to be difficult. They also have no way to pay online, which seems ridiculous in this day and age. After calling five different times over the last few months and not getting any answer, they sent the bill to collections. It's absurd to make it so difficult for people to give you money. This is already expensive and not fun to deal with, why on earth would anyone make it more challenging when having a simple voicemail is such an easy fix? Awful service. Do not go to him.

I didn’t even go to my post-op appointment because Sacksner was the most unprofessional and rude doctor I’ve ever dealt with. I had to have two surgeries with him because my surgical site from the first surgery got infected. I had to have a fistulotomy after I developed an abscess and fistula from the sphicterotomy surgery he performed. He created so many more problems for me than I had before seeing him. Any time I contacted him over the phone with healing concerns he dismissed the pain I was in and even yelled at me and hung up on me at one point. If you actually want to heal from your condition and have trust in your surgeon, stay far away from this guy.

Goes Above & Beyond
Dr. Sacksner was working at another hospital the day I went to St. Mary’s ER for appendicitis. I was admitted and told I would need surgery. I was away from my home state of TX, visiting family in MI. I asked if the ER doctor could contact Dr. Sacksner. I had met him months before when he operated on my 85 yr old Dad and did an amazing job. He agreed to head over to St. Mary’s later that day to perform my surgery. Everything went well and I am so grateful that he did that for me. I had peace of mind knowing he would be performing the surgery. He is an excellent surgeon.

My mother was seen by another doctor who removed a polyp and determined it was cancerous however, he did not want to do the surgery. We had an appointment with Dr. Sacksner on a Monday and he immediately made a call to get her on his Tuesday schedule. She had colon cancer and after the surgery did outstanding. The follow up did not require chemo or radiation. She had the surgery at age 80 and lived to be 93. Thank you Dr. Sacksner.

I have had a few appointments with Dr. Sacksner. He is excellent, brilliant, personable, trustworthy. In addition to my appointments, I got to talk to him many times because my husband was a surgical patient of his. He saved my husband's life.

Dr. Sacksner was a great surgeon. He is a little rough around the edges in personality, but when it comes to knowing his stuff, he is very solid. He answers questions directly and succinctly, which I could see a turn off to some introvert types, but he was perfect for me. I would use him again if needed and suggest his services to others.

Dr Sacksner diagnosed an abscess requiring drainage. This was my first abscess in that region, so like any normal human, I had a few questions. Unfortunately, all he wanted to do was lance the abscess and leave. With a pretty harsh tone, he immediately interrupted me and said, “Do you want me to remove it or not”?! He bullied me into a procedure I knew nothing about to remove something I knew nothing about. 1 day following the procedure, there was a recall on wipes I had used to keep the wound clean, the recall was due to a bacterium known to cause infection in humans. I called the Dr’s answering service immediately (Friday), and before I could tell them the bacterium name, the answering service put me on hold to reach the Dr. He had them relay to me that I should stop using the wipes and wait until Monday and call his office. This was despite him having no idea what this bacterium is, nor did he seem to want know, and gave me medical advice anyway. He has terrible bedside manner.

I had emergency surgery for a perforated colon resulting from breast cancer chemo in Aug 2017. I am very thankful that Dr. Sacksner was on duty and immediately operated to save my life. I observed the interaction with his team of surgical residents during rounds and appreciated the training he provided in a personable and compassionate manner. He is easy to talk to and alleviated my concerns regarding ostomy reversal.

Dr. Sacksner is a highly competent surgeon that takes his craft very seriously. Have never given much credit to having a '"nice" doctor. My felling is give me a great mechanic over "nice". Dr. Sacksner delivered both. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Dr. Sacksner may be a good surgeon but is poor with follow up care. He treated my mother terribly. Using words like "pathetic " and "hysteria" and telling her to "not let her children baby her" when she complained of problems after surgery. Those words are insulting and demeaning. Would he give a male patient the same disrespect?

I had a relative go under surgery with this man. He is an unprofessional jerk who recommend things which were unneeded and medically negligent. I would ask the hospital for another doctor if you are undergoing surgery with him. There are better and more qualified surgeons available.
