Dr. Jon Dounchis, MD

He is very busy so appointments are rushed. I don't feel I was prepared for the lingering pain and length of time for recovery. He covers info very quickly, so be on your toes if you want to ask questions. His staff is very good and efficient.

Went through much the same thing. Three infections. Was re-admitted. Had to debride twice all the way to the prosthesis. Has never been right. Bad experience at NCH.

My life is ruined due to careless care given to me by Dr. Jon Dounchis and NCH Baker town hospital Naples. Two unprofessional surgeries done by him and the improper care given to me at NCH Hospital before & after the two surgeries which lead me to do two additional surgeries at TGH. Made a big mistake by going to Dr. Dounchis. Should have gone to TGH from day one and avoided all this misery (physical and mental). Lot of bone loss after two failed surgeries done by Dr. Dounchis resulted in one of leg being short. First surgery done March 18 and 2nd one April 18th. Rush job done just to make money without doing what he is supposed to do to prevent infection. Mentioned there was a lot of dead tissues which caused infection, didn't he know that it should have been cleared before proceeding with replacing ball and liner two times! Lots to tell but only limited characters given. Wrong advice given without seeing me led my 3 bacteria to turn to 5. Don't care attitude and cold!

Dr. Dounchis and Team,Today I played my first nine holes of golf post hip replacement on December 2nd! My game may not have improved much, but my mobility and ability to get into and out of the golf cart pain free felt like a miracle! And my stamina and flexibility on the fairway were on par as well! I can’t thank you enough for restoring my mobility !

I was very disappointed with Dr Dounchis' ability, performance, care and concern. Prior to enlisting his services I had heard he had a poor bedside manner. I am more than willing to put up with that attribute so long as someone is competent with their services. Being in very good physical condition I was optimistic about my knee replacement. I followed all pre-op and post-op guidance. I was diligent with physical therapy. It's been over a year and my knee is no better than it was prior to surgery. The pain is different, however it is ever present. It is my understanding the doctor gets a flat fee regardless of the quantity of follow-up visits for the procedure. This was very evident as I only had one follow-up visit after the surgery with his practitioner and even with the issues I was having with my recovery, the office stated there would be no further a follow-up. Please understand I am not a difficult client, was kind and of course concerned for my well-being.

I have nothing good to say about Dounchis! Six month recovery period for a simple knee replacement!

I went for bilateral cortisone shots which I have gotten for many years! He wants to replace both my knees without my consent! Last he barely spoke to me.

All staff are very friendly, including DR Dounchis. I had both knees replaced by Dr Dounchis 6 years ago and they are fine apart from some small weakness in the left knee presently.Dr Dounchis listened to my issue and after examination gave me good advise.

I had hip replacement surgery 9 months ago. My experience turned out to be nothing like what I had feared. From the first encounter with Dr. Dounchis’s office, I felt comfortable. The office personnel, interviewers, nurses, and Dr. Dounchis himself treated me with care, explained everything I needed to know, and answered my questions (I had plenty). That level of care was extended to surgery (NCH care was excellent as well) and follow-up. I’d like to emphasize that Dr. Douchis is an “artiste” of the surgical theater. The hip I have now is everything I could have hoped, works wonderfully well, and even the scar is not obtrusive. The most important thing is that I am no longer in pain. Before the operation, I was looking forward to dying, my hip hurt so much. Today, I am my old active self again. Thank you, Dr. Dounchis.

Dr. Dounchis and his team have replaced both my hips. The first was 18 months ago, and the second was 4 months ago. After the first one, I returned to full speed and tournament tennis in 5 months. Miracle! The second one was 4 months ago. In addition to osteoarthritis, I had two fractures in the hip. I was in London when it gave out on a Thursday. Dr. Dounchis had me fly home the next day, and he and his A team gave up their Sunday morning and met me at NCH hospital for the surgery. We were the only people there! Again, a masterpiece of surgery. I'm so thankful. I would never see anyone else. After the surgery, he was in my hospital room Sunday night, checking on me, and his team at the hospital is unrivaled for their service and aftercare. If there was a rating of 10 stars, that is what I would give Dr. Dounchis.

Dr .Dounchis has done replacement s on both of my hips and my right shoulder, and repaired both rotator cuffs with 100% satisfaction. He is by far the best orthopedic doctor in all of Southwest Florida. If your looking for excellence in orthopedic care, he should be your doctor of choice. Bob Burton

I had a robotic total knee replacement, went home the same day and was walking without support within a week , At 7 weeks I have 130 range of motion and am feeling great. Note that I am a very senior citizen. Pre op Nurse Karen was most helpful. The post operation treatments provided were excellent. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Thank you Dr. Dounchis for an excellent experience.

I tried calling this practice six times and never spoke to anyone. They have an inept system for handling incoming calls. An answering system is used and was having technical issues twice and offered to call back but only happened once. I can’t image needing help quickly! Don’t waste your time like I did.

I like the doctor but it's like pulling teeth to get through to make an appointment. I've left three messages so far. They did call me back after the second msg but it was at 6:30 pm (after hours) so I missed the call and was told to call back. A lot of good that did , was promted to leave another msg again.

I was driving in a week! On pain meds for 2 1/2 days. Only needed two days of out patient therapy. Never needed to go to rehab. I had girlfirend with me for 4 days and asked her leave as I live alone and could manage by myself!

Answered questions, took the time I needed. Did an excellent job with my total knee replacement

Dr. Dounchis is the top orthopedic surgeon in this entire region. He is EXCELLENT!! Brilliant, caring & answers all my questions clearly & succinctly. I have had the most excellent care, treatment, advice, skill and overall “doctoring” from him through all four of the surgeries he’s done. I have had my right shoulder’s rotator cuff & labrum repaired; later on, my left shoulder’s rotator cuff, labrum & “shredded” biceps had to be repaired. He did knee replacements on both knees at the same time giving me back full use of my knees w/o pain. The next year my right hip was replaced, further improving my walking. I did exactly what Dr. Dounchis & my physical therapy teams said to do in order to get the best results. I have no pain in my knees & hip, full motion and no problems. Both shoulder repairs were totally successful, full range of motion without pain - until I re-injured my left shoulder. He’ll do a full shoulder replacement next month because I’ve just totally wore it out.

Exactly 2 years ago Dr. Dounchis replaced my left hip. I am not sure what went wrong, as I never received an explanation, but to this day I am in pain day and night and nothing can be done, no medication or physical therapy help or has helped. One leg is now longer, which requires me to wear a lift in my right shoe. In the original report, both of my legs had the same length. I no longer exercise, take dance classes, and enjoying walking and hiking is no longer possible. My life before the hip replacement is gone and has impacted my health enormously. This makes me very angry to have my life changed so drastically. I certainly would not recommend Dr Dounchis as a surgeon.

I found Dr. Dounchis to communicate and listen well. Described surgery in my terms. Seemed to care about me and my knee.

I had a total knee replacement in Dec. 2018. I am worse off than before surgery and am now facing a two stage knee replacement to fix Dr. Dounchis's screwup.
