Dr. John Stranix, MD

Down to earth surgeon. He communicated all the necessary information I needed to make an informed decision with my surgery. He also gave ample opportunity for me to ask questions. We hit a snag in my phases of surgery, but he remained optimistic and helped ease my anxiety around complications that arose; the procedures I am undergoing come with a high complication risk and this was explained thoroughly prior to moving forward.

Out of the nurses and other physicians I had, I saw Dr. Stranix the least but he took his time and explained my options well. While not as personable as some, he was respectful, welcoming, and I felt confident in his abilities. My surgery went well with no complications and I am pleased with the results. He was recommended to me by a friend who was a patient of his as well. Overall, would definitely recommend.

Dr. Stranix, his calm and friendly demeanor, created a nice ambiance. I appreciated his patience and feedback. This is by far the friendliest clinic I've been to and I've been coming to UVa for over 30 years.

UVA doctors here in Charlottesville are great people. My care team are compassionate, listen and explains well and go the extent in making sure I understand everything esp if medical terms are used.

Dr. Stranix is the man! He has a great bed side manor. He did amazing work. So nice and Polite. He speaks to you in terms that you can understand and it makes you more comfortable

Even with complications from first surgery Dr Stranix always took the time to explain what he believed was the issue, ways to resolve it and answered thoroughly any questions I had. He dealt with my many emotions with care and compassion.

Dr. Stranix showed care and concern in how I was recovering. I am extremely happy with his surgical care and expertise and I would recommend him and his staff to anyone.

I had a MTF transsexual labiaplasty with Dr Stranix. He did not communicate well what his surgery plan was, and as such the result would have been bad; it was in fact catastrophic. What the doctor did not do, that has caused me so much trauma, is that he did not tell me he would have to destroy my labia majora in order to create that labia minora, losing much of my best skin to the process. He did not tell me that he was going to have to make the lips much larger than they would eventually be because they were shrink and and so I would lose all that essential skin from the foreskin and penile shaft that was extremely soft and sensitive, that I cared so much about. I specifically asked the doctor if I would lose sensation, and he saw 'no reason why' I would.I have lost part of my genitalia that cannot be rescued to me as a result of a doctor failing to tell me all of the risks of this procedure.

An amazing surgeon. Takes time to answer all the questions you may have. He really cares for the people he treats and it shows in his interactions. Wait times to see him are really reasonable. His pre and post surgery care is amazing. He isn't a do the procedure then afterwards pass you to a student or anything for any issues or questions. He handles everything himself from start to finish. really cannot say enough good things about this surgeon. I had had to deal with my fair share of surgeons over the years and he is one of the few you can tell loves what he does and it comes out in your interactions with him. He also is willing to listen to feed back from patients even if it's not all great feed back and use it to help make the care he gives better, which we all know some doctors don't like to do. All in all this guy would get 6 stars from me if I could give them. If you have the option of getting your care from him give him a chance I promise you won't regret it.

I had never had any kind of surgery before my procedure with Dr. Stranix but all my pre-surgery fears disappeared under their care. and my results are wonderful, beyond what I had hoped. I would absolutely reccomend Dr. Stranix to anyone seeking a procedure like mine.
