Terrible.. avoid at all cost
Husband was admitted under neurosurgical for septicemia and low back post op infection in his lower back. Immediately after the low back operation he was unable to lift his arms off the be.!’2 days went by and no one investigated the sudden inability to move his arms. Dr Schultz was the hospitalist assigned for coordination of care between neurosurgery, ID, endocrinology, and cardiology. He did none of that insisting that my husband was “stable”. It wasn’t until I and my family insisted he wasn’t that an hour later he was taken to the OR on a Friday evening for an abscess in his neck. From there he was transferred directly to ICU for 4 days for post anesthesia cardiac tachycardia. A hospitalist is supposed to be responsible for coordinating care and monitoring the care and patient status. He didn’t. He simply looked at the floor insisting he was stable, even at the time he was rushed to surgery and as we sat in the surgical waiting room the entire night and early morning hours.
