Certainly in over his depth - beware
82 year old, mom was life-flighted into Geisinger Medical Center - Danville, from Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College, PA. She had an aortic dissection so they sent her to more qualified hands - kudos for the identification and super quick transport. The Geisinger ICU team stabilized her and determined that it was a low level/manageable dissection with a prognosis of blood pressure management and no surgical intervention required. She was moved from the ICU to floor 8/cardiac care where she met Dr. Samies. Dr. Samies it turns out is a DO not an MD- that was never made clear. From here on out, things deteriorated rapidly. She was a moderately complex case due to lots of meds, overweight, high blood pressure. Under John's management they never got on top of her fluids, under his direction she painfully vomited for 30+ hours, had bowel stoppage, a stomach bleed, and subsequent infection - all of which we asked about ahead of time. Behind the 8 ball - NONE of this is fatal.
