Dr. John Rhee, Top USA Spine Surgeon, Researcher
Dr. John Rhee is a leading USA Spine Surgeon rated by his spine surgeon peers, who specializes in cervical, lumbar, complex deformity surgery, and surgery for spinal tumors. He is a skilled, competent spine surgeon with over 20 years of spinal surgery experience, conducts research to further spine surgery, publishes in textbooks and spine journals, and trains resident fellow spine surgeons to further spine care.I needed a lumbar laminectomy L1 to L4 spine surgery, researched top spine surgeons, and flew to Atlanta, GA to consult and have Dr. Rhee do my lumbar surgery, as your surgeon, not location, is the most important thing to have a great outcome. Right after surgery, all my leg and foot nerve pain went away. I am stable, walking within a week of surgery with minimal lower back pain, which gets better daily with healing, regaining my normal mobility, and I can resume my normal active life.My surgery was done at the excellent Emory University Orthopedic & Spine Surgery Hospital.

I just had an ACDF C5-7 surgery done by Dr. John Rhee at Emory Orthopedics & Spine Hospital. I got multiple opinions from surgeons before making my decision to go with Dr. Rhee. He immediately put me at ease and I chose him as my surgeon at my first appointment with him. He is a brilliant doctor with a great beside manner. His staff is phenomenal as well. I spoke to his nurse, Laila, several times and she was amazing and answered my questions in a timely manner. I feel so blessed to have had my surgery done by Dr. Rhee. He literally saved my life and I am forever indebted to him. If you need this surgery I encourage you to see Dr. Rhee right away. He and his staff will take great care of you.

Not Impressed by this provider
Just like other reviews state, driving long distance only to be underwhelmed by Dr. Rhee. My review, unfortunately is the same. My clinical situation was very specific and Dr. Rhee did not meet my expectations. He also missed the opportunity to go the extra mile. I do not trust Dr. Rhee's information and medical judgment.

Disappointing Visit
Let me begin by saying that Dr. Rhee is friendly and BUSY. I am also a clinician (so, I get it). However, despite my being very specific with my symptoms and the pain that I was experiencing -- I felt that the dots were not connected. I filled out my online chart in detail, brought prior visit notes, and imaging supporting the reason for my visit. Days later, I read my follow-up note from Dr. Rhee and I learned that he left out my chief complaint. The NP that initially came into the exam room stated, "Why are you coming to see Dr. Rhee, he's an orthopedic surgeon -- you need a neurosurgeon?" I addressed this with Dr. Rhee directly and his response was very dismissive and not at all expected (given what showed up on my imaging). He put a plan of care in place, but he didn't seem confident in that plan. I stated that I had additional questions and I left without my questions being addressed.

Very disappointed
I drove over an hour to see Dr. Rhee and was anticipating the visit for a long while to get some answers and help. I explained my pain and it seemed like he wasn’t listening because he was confused about where I was talking about. All I wanted was help with identifying the source of my pain and maybe some options. He told me he couldn’t help me. He could have gone the extra mile, but didn’t. I went away so disappointed and thinking this was a huge waste of my time.

Dr. Rhee and his clinical staff are the best. Dr. Rhee is extremely skilled as a surgeon, but also treats his patients with great compassion and patience. I had a fusion of C1/C2 and this was life changing for me. I had experienced cervical headaches every day for 1 1/2 years. I am still in recovery but have not experienced the first headache since my surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Rhee to everyone. Thanks Dr. Rhee and clinical staff for all your help!!!

From my first visit with Dr. Rhee, I was so impressed with him and I knew then that I needed him to be my doctor. He was so thorough with the information concerning me and my condition. He was so patient to listen to my complaints and I never felt rushed. He was always professional, too. I am so grateful that I had Dr. Rhee to perform my surgery and aftercare as well. He is, by all means, the best. Thank you Dr. Rhee for all you did to get me back on my feet. I am walking straight up {no bending} and pain free. Thanks to you, Dr. Rhee.

A Very Happy Person
In 2008 Dr Rhee was placed in the lives of my husband and myself. William was an equipment operator and was having major issues that sent us on a specialist rollercoaster, being referred from one to another until we met Dr Rhee and Nurse Nancy. At the end of the day surgery was done and we had new found family for life. I call from time to time just to say Thank You and I pray for them regularly. I’ve since lost William to SCLC but I will always stay connected.

Dr Rhee is fantastic. He didn't push surgery - presented various options and gave me lots of time to ask as many questions as I needed to feel comfortable. I finally opted for surgery (ACDF) and the results have been superb. He is very patient and skilled. I would highly recommend to anyone I know. His staff is also fantastic.

After almost ten years ago Dr. Rhee performed my first neck spinal fusion surgery to find out I am in need of another neck surgery and Dr. Rhee answers the call. I am better and healing tin the right direction because of him and his amazing staff. Listen when you find a doctor who will listen to your health concerns and tell you to trust them to work with you to get you back healthy and back on track this is my Dr. Rhee. Every patient is different and what works for one may not work for the other one, but to listen to the patient and work a plan for the patient is key and that is what I have found in Dr. Rhee and his staff. From my first surgery in 2012 until this current 2021 surgery Dr. Rhee has not wavered in giving the top of the line care to his patient. I am thankful to him, his staff and God for another chance to live a better life.

Dr. Rhee, Dr. Bailey, Nurse Laila and Team Rhee, I can't say Thank You enough to definitely one of Emory's finest and best physicians & groups. My second surgical experience in having to put my trust and confidence in him, and Dr. Rhee once again came through giving me hope & optimism for a brighter future. He & his staff are the most congenial, receptive, professional, and empathetic to the needs of the patient. They have been truly a blessing, without hesitation in addressing any of my concerns & taking care of me. I am so very humble and grateful. Dr. Rhee & Staff will forever be in my family's thoughts & prayers. Sincerely, The TBrown Family

First, I believe Dr. Rhee had the highest recommendation a doctor could have. My doctor from another Orthopedic group recommended Dr. Rhee for my surgery without any reservation. I trust that doctor as much as you can trust any physician. After explaining my situation for the past year, you can not imagine how grateful I was to get an appointment almost immediately. My husband and I met with Dr. Rhee and were very impressed by how he listened and understood the severe pain I had been enduring for what seemed like forever. He lifted my head and the relief was instantaneous. He explained the surgery in terms we could understand from the surgical success to the possible complications. My husband and I believed I could not be in better hands and that is exactly how we felt after the surgery. Dr. Rhee is such a blessing.

I am still amazed by Dr. Rhee, Ms. Betty, RN, and Ms. Middlebrook's high level of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness with my surgical care/appointments, paperworks and most of all the relief of my signs and symptoms(pain) post surgery due to his detailed surgical work on my C-Spine. My incision was immaculate. One of the hardest decisions made easy by the best Team.
