ACDF C4-C7 fusion
This being my very first operation- given I was nervous- but gave relief following initial consult.Gave information as to what the surgery would involve, what to expect post surgery. The potential outcomes at the worst case scenario but ultimately finds far better results with majority of patients. Answered all my questions and concerns in common terms to be able to understand (instead of 19 syllable words I wouldn’t) has been very helpful along the way during post surgery treatment and physical therapy. John has seen better results at each visit since surgery than expected. Very up front and forward- told as it is. No sugar on top to mask or deceive my expectations . If it wasn’t possible, simply told me No that’s not something I would expect nor inform you of. Laid it out as it is. Would definitely recommend if surgery needed in his field! Was not trying to push cadaver components but use of my own bone. (Less issues of body rejecting work)Well done sir. Can’t thank you enough for…

Spinal fusion
My husband had a spinal fusion two years ago. We have no complaints. My husband did 100% of the doctors orders and he is happy and out of pain. Doctor L is easy to talk to. The one thing patients have to realize the final results rest on you doing the work. My husband does pt and his exercises. Not easy but it has to be done. So ty doctor L we appreciate you.

Surgical complications with terrible results!
I had Dr. Lamacchia perform spinal surgery on me in July, 2024 for mild case of spinal stenosis. I spent 16 days in the hospital and suffered severe nerve pain and damage to my right leg and foot. I have been unable to walk unassisted since the surgery (5 months ago), and the surgical wound in my back will not heal properly. I have had countless doctor visits (not him), home nurse visits, physical therapy and wound clinic visits which have yielded slight progress. The expense for walkers, lift-assist tools, raised toilet seats, etc. has been significant. To summarize, my situation has been awful since the surgery with no clear resolution in sight and very slow progress. Professional opinions have been that these issues are the result of surgical complications.

CUSTOMER vs Patient
LaMacchia is not a good player! You’ll be a customer of his NOT a patient even if things go awry in the O.R. ! The man’s damaged goods! His Narcissistic Personality Disorder keeps him from being a great doctor. Buyer Beware!!!

I would never recommend this guy to anyone!
Terrible! I would not go to this doctor again if I were paid to. He even had the nerve the say I was overweight. I am not one bit overweight and it is none of his business anyway. He was rude, not understanding and just a not nice person.

My Neck is better than new
I had c3 - c7 fused together. I had been dealing with pain for about 15 years. I could not believe how well I did during the recovery period. I felt 100% after 6 months. I have no pain and I really didn't lose any mobility in my neck. Dr. Lamacchia and his staff were just awesome to work with and would recommend Dr. Lamacchia to anyone. Thank you Dr. Lamacchia for everything you did.

Highly Recommend great results
My 1st surgery experience with Dr. LaMacchia was for next fusion in 2009 with the best results, so when I needed lower back fusion Oct. 2022 I of course went to see him again. After required test and meeting with, Dr LaMacchia felt that he could fix my issue. He explained in detail what was wrong and the steps required to resolve my issue. I found that any appointment was on time and that any question I had was answered. I found that the entire office staff from the PA to the individual answering the phone were always courteous and would go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. I would recommend Dr. LaMacchia , and also let them know that he will tell it like it is with no BS. He will tell you what things you will also have to do prior to surgery and your requirements that you will have to do after if you want to get back to your normal functions. I've never posted a review on anyone before, but felt that Dr LaMacchia has twice fix some of the worst pain I've ever experienced

Do not use this doctor! Horrible, horrible!!!!
He performed a neck fusion on me. He’s very arrogant, anytime I try to express the extreme pain I was going through all he could do is tell me what a great doctor he was and act like I was faking my pain! It has been 7 years and things have not gotten better! I’ve lost the ability to look up or down the slightest bit, can’t use a computer, garden, even household chores are painful because of this fusion! My life is a nightmare now, I have to get Cervical injections every few months because of my pain!

Monster in a white coat
My son had a neck fusion with Dr. L in May 2020. The fusion failed. He literally blew him off saying "I did my job" . Well my son has been in pain for 2 years since. He’s manipulative ,arrogant, pompous, rude and uncompassionate He doesn’t listen to his patients and he surely doesn’t have compassion and/or empathy. Avoid at all costs. Luckily he referred us the to Cleveland clinic. The smartest thing this man could do. My son had a successful fusion thanks to the wonderful Doctor at the Cleveland clinic. May 2022

Horrible Horrible Horrible
This man is more of a salesman than a professional, I wouldn’t even call him a doctor. He’s manipulative, he doesn’t listen to his patients and he surely doesn’t have compassion and/or empathy. I’ve had the worst experience of my life because of this man.

I suffered from low back pain for over 9 months and finally consulted with Dr. LaMacchia and decided to have low back surgery to remove the disc protrusions causing my terrible pain and sciatica. A year later, and I'm doing great! I'm so grateful for Dr. LaMacchia and would recommend him highly. Thanks Dr.

I had a bad fall down a steep flight of stairs in my house. I became septic and was put on a ventilator and not expected to live. I made it and after 3 hard years of Physical Therapy I was walking again with a walker! I went on the roof to repair my ham radio antennas, I was swimming, doing maintenence around the house, driving dining out ect.I had gone as far as I could go and decided to ask LaMacchia for a consult. I walked IN with a walker and after surgery, as he was wheeling me to recovery, I suffered severe muscle spasms over my whole body which required large doses of Dilaudid. After I got home I continued to suffer terrible muscle spasms and sleep was impossible. After 2 years of this horrible convulsive muscle spasms I sought LaMacchias help. He asked me "how long has this been going on"? I reminded him he saw for himself the first time it happened and that I never had any of the problems before he operated and he blew his steam! I'm now confined to a wheelchair. Buyer Beware

Terrible experience. ZERO bedside manner. He basically ignored me and grumbled swear words when his computer froze up. Very agitated & zero compassion or empathy. I would not recommend him nor will I return. Looking for a Dr. to be in my corner not to be annoyed that I exist. Next.

I usually don’t write reviews for anything but I had such a bad experience with Dr. LaMacchia today that I had to write this review. This doctor has the worst bedside manner I’ve ever encountered. After I was waiting an hour in the room, he came in and started explaining my MRI using medical jargon that was absolutely no use to me. He was very condescending to any questions I asked and just very short with me. All in all, very bad experience and I will call my Family doctor to make sure he never refers anyone else to Dr. LaMacchia again! :(

I suffered with severe back pain for a few years and tried everything to avoid surgery. When I reached the point of knowing that surgery was inevitable, I discussed it with my primary doctor and he recommended Dr. LaMacchia without hesitation. Dr. LaMacchia performed a laminectomy and while in the recovery room, I was shocked to feel my big toe, which I hadn’t felt in a couple years. And the excruciating pain in my leg is gone!! A big heartfelt thanks to Dr. LaMacchia and his wonderful staff for giving me the confidence to go through with the surgery and changing my life. His office is top-notch and everyone there makes you feel comfortable. He is the absolute best in my book and I highly recommend him to everyone.

My family trusted this doctor for over 10 years. He treated an operated on multiple family members. We have totally lost faith and will no longer recommend him to anyone. He has abandoned his ability to feel compassion and overlooks treatment possibilities instead trusting the patients symptoms and taking precautions to seek the best possible treatment and outcome for the persons future. He has done harm by not verifying conditions and has never bothered to check on his patients since.
