I came to Dr. Howard for a 3rd opinion to examine my throat in 2020 Yes it took me this long to put in a review but better late than never and you will understand at the end of this review. It felt like something was caught. He blew it off and said it was globus sensation (phantom feeling that feels like something in in your throat). After getting 2 other opinions both being ENT's and they both said it was the same thing. He treated me like it was all in my head.I have been in healthcare for over 20 years and am my own advocate.I demanded an MRI or some other imaging be done on my throat and neck.He reluctantly ordered an MRI. He insisted that it was globus sensation.Well I never went back to him because of the treatment I received. I pursued another opinion. After getting the MRI results back I made an appt with an endocrinologist. The results of MRI showed a nodule on my left thyroid.Endocrinologist did biopsy of nodule and guess what? PAPILLARY THRYOID CANCER. DO NOT GO TO DR. HOWARD!

Very condescending
I brought my daughter in after being diagnosed with laryngomalacia by her PCP. My husband and I wanted a second opinion and advice on how to manage the symptoms. I decided to go the appointment alone with my daughter and Dr. Howard was very condescending and rude while I was explaining the symptoms. He eventually told me that my daughter was fine and that he doesn’t see a need to examine her.

Fine doctor probably, office is horrible
Only saw the doctor for about five minutes. Wanted to get in touch about a follow up appointment and a few questions- left several messages at the beginning of the week and have yet to receive a reply after five days. Not worth it.

Went in for a nasal polyp, the office was crowded & when I was finally seen he told the recorder it was “trauma” & left the room. I NEVER had any trauma to my nose. Charged Medicare a lot !

Awful experience at Hampton Roads ENT. Dr. John Howard is by far, the most unprofessional doctor I have ever come in contact with. Front desk and medical staff seem to have no knowledge of actual services performed in their office. Called to make an appointment for my child, told the woman who answered the phone that I had talked to my insurance company and they had given me HRENT's number but I still wasn't sure if this was the right place to be calling for what I was looking for. I explained our situation to her and she assured me that I was indeed calling the right place. She asked very few questions...just personal and insurance info and if there was a referring doctor to which I replied NO. We got to the appointment 15 minutes early then waited 30 minutes to be taken to a room. Once again I went over everything with the doctor's assistant. The assistant even chatted with me about her own experience as a child and how much better she felt after having the same services we thought

Dr. John Howard is a kind, thorough, intelligent physician who makes extra effort to make his patients feel comfortable and informed. He takes the time to explain the diagnosis and treatment plan, so there are no unknowns when leaving the appointment. He does not just throw expensive medications at you and does not order/perform anything that is not necessary. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone with ENT or allergy issues.

I've been having problems with migraines and headaches a neurologist send me to the ENT dr. Howard to see if my sinuses were cause of headaches. It cost me $150 to be seen wasn't even in there five minutes for him to put some Afrin in my nose tells me I'm good and then sends me a bill for $500. I felt unsatisfied by the service and abused by the bill

I was treated by Dr Howard for severe ear pain. The entire staff, from check in to check out, were friendly and efficient. Dr Howard was very thorough in his exam and promptly diagnosed the cause of my pain. He performed a minor procedure at that time, which significantly decreased my pain within just a few minutes. This was my first time seeing Dr Howard, and I quickly learned I was in good hands. The will he has to help his patients is evident. I would recommend Dr H and his staff to anyone

Dr. Howard is very thorough and caring. He was excellent about giving me over-the-counter prescriptions save me money, prior to prescribing me medications. He spent extra time explaining all diagnoses, treatments and precautions. He also took an extended amount of time to listen to and address my questions and concerns. He is very intelligent, but also very down to earth. Great guy and great doctor.

This was my first visit. Excellent from the start! The staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. While I was waiting, one patient commented to me "Best Doctor I have ever had." Once in an examination room the great experience continued. I found Dr. Howard to be very friendly and he did a great job with the examination. I never felt rushed. I had seen 3 other Doctors for this same issue and thanks to Dr Howard I am finally getting better. I would highly recommend him without hesitation
