My mom is 84 years old and 90 lbs. She can't keep any food in her with uncontrollable diarrhea. I fear she is going to starve to death with a complete lack of nourishment. Her Gastoenterologist asked me to take her to the ER. I did. He proceeded to lecture us in the most condescending way on how ER medicine is designed for life-threatening situations. He continued to lecture on how doctor's offices, when booked out for months, send their people to the ER... & why would we think he can resolve any of her problems by a visit to the ER. We were both appalled & stunned! She wanted to leave. So we did! His arrogance was shocking. Crazy thing is...she was a RN at that very same hospital for 30+ years and did not deserve the unsympathetic treatment he gave her.

On my husband's 4th visit to Aultman ER in less than a month, for the same health issues, Dr. Balcom came into the exam room and asked me "just what I thought he could do for me 'this time' " . . .His attitude and tone was "why are you here again". The result of this visit, by the way, was a 2nd admission and surgery within 2 weeks time. Our neurosurgeon had told me when I spoke with him the day before, to go to ER if my husband worsened (it was the weekend). Dr. Balcom was not respectful, caring or understanding of my husband's needs, or my attempts to get my husband the help he needed.
