Dr. Joe Howe, MD

In 1999 (25 years ago), Dr. Howe performed triple bypass surgery on me in Hot Springs, when I was 61. With zero complications during the intervening years, I'm now a heart-healthy 86-years old - with my original bypasses. Met with Dr. Howe as a referral from my cardiologist for Bypass Surgery. All the receptionists, nurses and other staff were exceptional. However, Dr, Howe appeared rushed and disinterested. He was not prepared for my appointment, having never reviewed any of the files that were sent. He also wanted to start over with a new PET scan Stress test, angiogram making me feel at greater risk for another heart attack and having to have the surgery on an emergency basis rather than planned, scheduled and with all the required/recommended pretesting; rather than utilizing the test results showing four blockages ranging from 70% - 100% from the same tests I completed that were less than a month old. He seemed disinterested in me was unable/unwilling to answer any questions and simply provided no value or support as a physician and surgeon. I would not recommend him for family, friends or even enemies. This doctor seems more interested in process than patients.

I was an emergency admit at the direction of my Cardiologist, Dr. Vengala for further evaluation of irregular heart beats observed by a heart monitoring device. Dr. Howe and Dr. Acharya, both from my cardiology group examined me and it was decided that I needed a pacemaker. Dr. Howe performed the surgery. I found all the medical team, from the ER triage staff, nurses, lab techs, and physicians to all be extremely professional, yet personable. Dr, Howe and Dr. Acharya explained thoroughly what would be done, and he answered all my questions satisfactorily. He even asked to meet my family who were waiting for me. The entire time spent in ER was reasonable and my surgery was done within the expected time. My recovery was only an hour, at which time the medical staff provided me with detailed discharge instructions. They answered every question I had without giving any indication that it troubled them. Dr Howe is an excellent doctor and very competent. My only issue is his lack of spending time with patient in post op to answer questions and provide post op prognosis.
