I was lucky to have been referred to Dr. Hu back in 2020 when my PSA became elevated and I was lucky again recently to have my radical prostatectomy performed by him. As anyone else undergoing the procedure I didn’t know exactly what the recovery and side effects would be like, but I could not be more pleased about the outcome. You should be aware that as well as his work in treating patients Dr. Hu is also one of the leading researchers in the field and trying to make the life of everyone dealing with this issue better. In addition the staff at Weill Cornell are top notch and always responsive to questions and concerns one might have. You will literally be in good hands with Dr. Hu this much I am sure of.

Dr Hu was highly recommended after my prostate diagnosis. Upon meeting with Dr Hu, I immediately knew he was the best possible doctor to address my prostate cancer.He explained everything in depth and put me at ease. He assured me that he was very very confident he would eradicate the cancer, which he did.He also assured me that his expertise in this type of surgery would leave me with very minimal after effects. He was spot on with that reassurance.After a brief recovery I can honestly say I am back to 95% of where I was prior to surgery.I cannot stress any more that he is (the guy) to see for a minimally invasive robotic prostatectomy.He is the best of the best.

I had my prostate removed by Dr. Hu in September 2024. I read many research papers on treatments for prostate cancer, sought the opinions of several top urologists and after deciding on surgery explored my options for a surgeon. Dr. Hu checked all the boxes - a wealth of experience, top positions at prominent medical centers, frequent presentations on the surgical treatment of prostate cancer at major urological conferences and stellar patient reviews.I'm a health care provider and needed someone I trusted 100%, which is not easy for me to do. Dr. Hu engendered that trust, especially upon meeting with him to discuss surgery. Post op - Negative margins and nodes. I had ongoing stress incontinence for 2 months which resolved after 4 months. ED persists although it's somewhat better; it can take 2 years for that to improve significantly. I believe that in Dr. Hu's hands I had the best outcome possible. I debated whether to have the surgery locally or in NYC -- I made the right decision.

I can't say enough about how great Dr Hu was! His surgical skill, knowledge and experience, contributed greatly to my successful results! My prostatectomy recovery was quick , with minimal pain. In addition, I experienced almost none of the side effects I read about during my own pre surgery research. Among other concerns, I was fully continent once my catheter was removed. Dr Hu and his staff were always there if I had questions or concerns. I really feel blessed to have found such a great surgeon!!

Dr Hu was recommended to me by my urologist to consult whether surgery was the way I wanted to go once tests showed I needed to treat my prostate cancer, and it was an easy decision as Dr. Hu explained everything in detail and made me very comfortable with his approach and the likely outcome vs. treating with radiation.Within 4 weeks, Dr. Hu performed the robotic prostatectomy, and everything went exactly according to plan. It's 3 months later and I have no incontinence at all, and sexual function is expected to return gradually. For anyone who is worried about doing the surgery, speak to Dr. Hu, and if you decide to do it, consider him a top choice.

Dr. Hu is a fantastic urology surgeon! My dad had high PSA for years, but his prior urologist never diagnosed him with prostate cancer. Dr. Hu is a fantastic urologic oncology surgeon. He performed a radical prostatectomy on my prostate cancer and I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon. He answered all my questions thoroughly both before and after the surgery. Who you have doing the surgery matters, and I think Dr. Hu is absolutely tops.

I live in San Diego and did a lot of research on the options available to me. Once I ruled out the various radiation therapies available (which I am very happy I did) I set out to find the best surgeon that offered the Retzius Nerve Sparing technique with the hope of controlling my incontinence concern. Fortunately I have had almost no leakage which I am extremely happy about, I give full credit to Dr Hu, who I believe is an extremely skilled and caring surgeon who has done apparently in excess of 500 of these procedures. This is not trivial surgery so I suggest you make sure the surgeon you end up choosing has done hundreds of these types of surgeries.

I consider myself very fortunate to have been treated for prostate cancer by Dr. Hu. His initial consultation was straightforward and clearly presented all the options for treatment. Despite feeling some anxiety before surgery, Dr. Hu’s easygoing manner put me at ease. It seemed like the procedure was over before I knew it, and I was able to go home the same day. I was amazed by the skill Dr. Hu applied in avoiding cutting nerves, so that impotence did not occur afterwards. Finally, I experienced a relatively smooth recovery and quickly returned to my regular active lifestyle: swimming, biking, hiking and teaching.

I am an anesthesiologist and I wanted to find the best provider for my father. I cannot recommend Dr. Hu highly enough. From the initial consultation to post-operative care, his approach was nothing short of excellent. Thanks to Dr. Hu's skill and expertise, my father experienced a smooth recovery, did not have to stay overnight at the hospital and is now back to normal lifestyle. I have been watching my PSA for a few years, and with the numbers going up and down and the Biopsy's, MRI's, focus biopsy, and generic testing, and cancer was detected. My wife and I made the decision to take it out after discussing the options with my Urologist. He recommended we talk to Dr. Hu as he is one of the best in NY. He explained what I was going to experience after the surgery such as topics of impotence and incontinence. He explained the % of full recovery, along with certain exercises (Kegels) before surgery and after to control Bladder control, which has come back to being almost normal. He also explained the surgery and how they are careful not to cut certain nerves that would make you impotent. My wife and I did our reading, and of course, I was nervous, but Dr HU made me feel better about the decision, and I started to not worry. almost a year later I feel this was the best decision I made and it gets better each day.

Wonderful doctor who treated me conservatively and when surgery became necessary did and exquisite job. I went home the night of the surgery (my choice) and the recovery has been amazing. Almost no side effects within days of the surgery. The doctor and his staff are amazing. There concern and care is evident in how often they check to see how I am doing and how promptly they get back to me if I reach out. I am so happy I found Dr. Hu and I highly recommend him and his team!

I was concerned about urinary incontinence and doing research found that Dr. Hu had a terrific track record. He was familiar with techniques of fascia sparing and retzius sparing that the other surgeons I spoke with either did not know about or did not have experience with. He advised fascia sparing and the result was I had no problems with urinary incontinence. His staff are excellent and responsive. Because Dr. Hu is both a highly skilled surgeon with RARP and someone who has done research on surgical techniques I believe he brings a rare level of expertise. Personally he is thoughtful and informative which is what I want from a doctor.

At 65, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and I needed to find a surgeon who could not only insure an uneventful operation but, also, minimal side effects. Living in the NY metro area, I conferred with surgeons from all the major hospitals, including MSK, but Dr. Hu was clearly the stand-out. It’s now been 3.5 months since my operation and the results have exceeded my expectations. The operation was uneventful, I was discharged the same day, post op pain was minimal, there were no positive margins in the pathology report, I have no detectable PSA in my blood, I experienced minimal stress incontinence that is now 90% resolved and continues to improve each week, and my erectile dysfunction was so mild that I could achieve full erection within a month with a low dose tablet of Sildenafil. Needless to say, choosing Dr. Hu to perform my surgery was one of the best decisions I have made, and I would recommend him and his team to anyone contemplating RARP Surgery.

After having been told by several surgeons that I was too old (83) to have prostate surgery, and was otherwise disqualified due to having had three TURPS to remove excess prostate tissue, Dr. Hu graciously accepted me as a patient and surgery candidate. Not for ordinary robotic prostate surgery, but an advanced form that preserves tissue that is important for normal functioning. The result has been most gratifying. Six weeks out, no urinary pads. Three months out, ED was no longer an “it isn’t going to happen” problem.Not only are the above “technical” aspects spectacular, my wife and I found Dr. Hu to be a caring, open, direct, attentive, available, friendly, and approachable human being and surgeon, with whom one can have a relationship that is both generally and professionally productive, efficient and satisfying. My wife and I could not be more pleased with the surgical outcome and our interactions with Dr. Hu. In short, he “checks all the boxes.
