He was rudely dismissive
Saw him bc I needed urgent orthopedic attention after high energy foot & ankle injury. I have a high pain threshold and stoic attitude bc that’s how I was raised. I told Dr Smith I was sure it was a severe soft tissue injury & I requested an MRI, which he refused for no reason. Weight bearing was excruciating but he forced me into wb X-rays. Finally he said there “was nothing wrong” and “what did I want him to do?” This arrogant guy didn’t listen when I told him I knew my own body & would NEVER seek medical care for a mere sprain. He sent me to PT for 6 MONTHS. Finally my PT urged me to get a 2nd opinion. DR SMITH GASLIT ME INTO WALKING AROUND AND DOING PT ON A RUPTURED TENDON & SEVERAL BROKEN BONES FOR 6 MOS, IMPLYING I JUST WASNT TRYING HARD ENOUGH. I eventually got treatment from the top doc at CHB, and required multiple surgeries and other procedures. Dr Smith’s neglect caused non-union fractures on my pulverized bones. He also let me with severe medical PTSD.

Highly Skilled Surgeon, Thoughtful Doctor
I had a severe ankle injury in 2017 and I was very lucky that two other doctors who I knew personally recommended Jeremy Smith. My ankle was dislocated and broken in three places and I’m a dance teacher. I am continually impressed with the detailed work and thought that went into my surgery. Although one can never be 100% after such a devastating injury, the ankle functions quite well and without pain. I have regained most of my flexibility, and in spite of all the hardware, the scar is hardly noticeable. I continue to teach dance and hike.More recently, I have seen Dr Smith for a Morton’s neuroma. I have been impressed with his thoughtful, conservative approach and kind manner. He is a busy doctor at a busy hospital, so getting in touch or in to see him can be difficult. But well worth the effort as he is without a doubt, one of the best doctors I have seen.

Brief and unsatisfactory
My appointment with Dr Smith was brief and I didn't get the chance to ask several questions. He spent the majority of the visit reviewing X-rays with I did not request as skeletal issued were not the reason for the visit. His assessment of my foot conditions seemed high level to me. No followup was encouraged. He did write me a prescription for PT and orthotics, though I felt they were a general rather than targeted response to my visit. He seemed like a nice guy, and his recommendation of stretching and moisturizer is probably good advice, though is not likely to correct the reason I came in. Reviewing his credentials, I probably should have gone to a podiatrist as he is apparently an orthopedic surgeon. I'll look elsewhere.

I had a very bad experience with Dr. Smith. My X-rays took longer than my total appointment time. MD didn't show me my X-rays, appointment was very rushed and he didn't give me enough time to ask questions and listen to what I was saying. He had the audacity to ask me if I wasn't walking on my broken toe if it was because I didn't want to, or because it hurt. He barely spent 10 minutes with me and then asked me to come see him in another 6 weeks. Not going to bother wasting my time with someone so unprofessional. Also my visit note that he wrote states things he didn't evaluate or ask about. I will not be seeing him again.

This doctor give me a fighting chance to get myself to a better place. He was very honest, sincere, cautious, & open throughout the process. My surgery was a team decision as he took ample time to lay out the positives, negatives & all potential outcomes. Moreover, the patient engagement of his team: scheduling, pre-op, surgery, post-op (excellent nurses/personable docs), to the patient integrated time outs. He's the "Go-To" foot/ankle surgeon in Boston. Active duty U.S. Air Force Major & Medic
