I was in Fawcett Hospital with a very large kidney stone. I was in excruciating pain, which the pain meds barely helped! I guess someone called Dr. Carlsen and he came in to do surgery on me. I forgot to mention it was a Saturday afternoon. The nurses got me ready for surgery. They allowed my husband to stay with me until we met Dr. Carlsen. We had to wait for him about 20-30 minutes since he was coming from another hospital. He met with my husband and me, drew a picture to describe what the problem was and what he was going to do about it!! He asked if we had any questions, and we said no. So his nurse and his assistant anesthesiologist wheeled me into the operating room. I was joking with them and they were telling me some really silly jokes, I think to relax me. After the surgery, when I was in recovery, he told me how everything went and what he did. He told me he wanted to see me in his office the following Friday. We discussed what the next surgery would entail. The following Wednesday, I went to Fawcett Hospital for outpatient surgery. He took the stent out that he had previously put in. Then another doctor lazered my kidney stone. After picking out as many of the pieces that they could, he put in another stent. I’m seeing him this week to have that stent removed, and then I’m finished!! We both thought Dr. Carlsen was professional, but not stuffy. He explained everything to me/us, and answered all the questions we asked. He isn’t really outgoing like super friendly, but he’s very nice!! I really like him and will continue to see him for any of my kidney or bladder problems!!

Knowledgeable & caring
During an ER visit for blood in my urine I was advised of large kidney stones in both kidney’s. I scheduled an appointment with Dr Carlsen. At my appointment I found him to be friendly, professional & knowledgeable. He advised me of the procedure to remove both kidney stones. He said his major concern because was the large amount of blood in my urine . His concern was the possibility of bladder cancer. Long story short about 10 days later Dr Carlsen removed both stones & performed a biopsy of my bladder. The procedure went very well the stones were removed & no bladder cancer. Post procedure he gave my wife his business card & advised her if there were any problems not to hesitate to call. She called the next day, a Saturday, and within 10 minutes he called her. It doesn’t get any better then that!

I wish I didn't even have to give him a star. My husband had his worse experience with this doctor. His words were HORRIBLE!!. He felt this doctor was demeaning like he was wasting his time. No personality at all. After 3 -5 minutes in this doctor office the doctor gave my husband a prescription. and he said "here, take the rx if you want" and he left the office. My husband had questions as any other concerned patient, this doctor acted like he was in a rush.

Dr.Carlsen saved my life. I'm not exagerating. I went to several urologists about blood in my urine and they all told me not to worry about it. Dr, Carlsen found that it was cancer in my left kidney and he removed the kidney, no more blood in urine.

I saw Dr. Carlsen in May 2018 for an abscess that needed immediate surgery. He took me right in and within 90 minutes of my primary calling him I was on my way home. Did an excellent in-office surgery. I saw him again for a consult regarding a different matter and I found him to be very professional. As a retired RN I am very satisfied.

Rescheduled twice. Was told first time because he had to pick his kids up from school because his wife wrecked her car. The second time he had a surgery. When we arrived for test results I askedto explain procedure he was about to do. Became outraged. Threw the clipboard with the procedure signature form on the counter. Informed me he'd never been questioned about a procedure. Opened the door and said quote "don't let the door hit you in the a**!" I was totally shocked at his unprofessionalism.

Well, I set an appt. {Tues.} it got cancelled because a surgery was going too long. But office told me his surgery day was Wed. I took the day off work, now I'm not being paid. We rescheduled for next week and I'm upset. I received a call from a different lady a few minutes later who explained to me that she spoke with him and he no longer sees patients for what I was seeing him for. But he was in surgery so how did you speak to him, in the last 10 minutes? Very Unprofessional!

I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Carlsen because I have IC and was experiencing a lot of pain. After two visits I was scheduled for a procedure to remove hunners ulcers from my bladder. This was done at the Surgy Center and I was amazed by the results. Within a week I was pain free. He is a really great doctor.
