Waiting 3 hours past appt every time!
The wait is ridiculous. I don’t think he gets to the office til 10, then starts an assembly line of patients that’s been there 2.5 hours already just to get thru them. No bedside manners to boot. He seems very knowledgeable at least. One time, my husband waited 2 hours 50 minutes for our daughter’s appointment then they said they couldn’t dialate her eyes bc Dr Carlsen had something come up, and didn’t have time to do it. They said they would call with the next appointment to come back in a week or two, and it’s been a week with no word from them.

Waited 2 hours and 30 minutes before I saw this doctor. He runs an assembly line office, plain and simple. After I was seated in his office I made a comment to the young lady who did the initial tests that we had been patiently waiting. Guess he heard that and took umbrage at my comment. He was talking so fast I didn’t hear him say if I didn’t like the wait I was more than welcome to see another Doctor there. When checking out the receptionist gave me 3 doctors to see next year., but not his. Well guess what Mr. Carlson, I will be seeing another Doctor but definitely not at Johnson City Eye whatever it is. And it parting, it is a very good thing I did not hear your little comment (my wife did) because I was also scheduled to pick up medicine for my cat who was diagnosed with cancer the day before. Believe me, stronger comments were made in the lobby about your unbearable wait time. My sympathy to your staff.

Ridiculous Wait
After waiting for 2 hours and 45 minutes past my appointment time I gave up. No one apologized for the delay or updated me during my wait. NOT recommended!!!

Can not recommend this doctor
It was not a good experience. My condition was worse than before my blepharoplasty surgery. My follow up was ok. He did an office procedure but it did nothing. Follow up from that and he said that there was nothing else he could do for me. He also said that I was spending too much time looking in the mirror.

Dr Carlsen is a terrible doctor. I had surgery and he didn't even seem to notice that I was in a lot of pain as he was working. It was excruciating and he never even said he was sorry for causing the pain. After all that, the surgery didn't even work and he said he could do nothing more. I went to another doctor and he did the surgery pain free and it worked perfectly. Never go to this Dr, you'll be sorry.

He and his staff are Extremely arrogant.. He does not have time to speak with patients before or after surgery.. The only thing this Dr. has time for is, cashing his check from your insurance company.. I would never recommend him or his assistance to any one.. Worst experience I have ever had..

I was railroaded out the office until I explained it wasn't just my age but 2 other conditions possibly affecting my eyes. He hadn't looked at my H&P at all, and rushed me out without any actual patient assessment asap, looking at his watch multiple times. Doc, if you're THAT busy??? SEE LESS PATIENTS. I could have rescheduled. Over 2 1/2 hours wasted, ridiculous wait times.

I’m not sure how to begin. We went to Dr Carlson because my daughter’s eye was occasionally turning in.We waited at least 2 hrs for him to spend 10-15 min. Unfortunately my daughter had a terrible reaction causing eye swelling lasting 5 days & is not improving still. He refuses to admit it is an allergy. We came in 1 week later & he didn’t remember us. We were there bc of the reaction but all he did was scold us for not ordering glasses (we plan to get a second opinion). We still have 0 answers

Dr. Carlsen is an extraordinary Ophthalmologist! He completely transformed my 7 year old little girl! Extropia Strabismous is a condition where the eyes turn slightly inward, thanks to Dr. Carlsen her eyes look AMAZING! Thank you for being a God send! Unfortunately, others say your bedside manners are bad, in Tri-Cities, people are lonely & seek only someone to TALK to! Your busy because your the best! I seek RESULTS, I have a problem and you focused on the SOLUTION! Thank you! GOD BLESS- Lisa

I was in the office for 4 hours and saw him less than ten minutes. He spent little time looking at my son, and nonchalantly told me my 10 month old needed glasses. I have since had 2 other ophthalmologists see my son for full exams. Both found an identical prescription with my son's vision, independent of each other. They were adamant that my son did NOT need glasses and could not understand how Dr. Carlsen arrived at that prescription. Please go to a different ophthalmologist.
