Dr. Jean Joseph, MD

Dr. Jean Joseph is an exceptional physician and urologist. He recently performed a robotic prostatectomy on my father, and from our first interaction, we knew he was in excellent hands. Dr. Joseph demonstrates a rare combination of surgical expertise and genuine compassion. The rapport he builds with his patients is truly remarkable—he even took the time to call the night before the procedure to discuss the surgery and address any lingering questions. On the day of the operation, he was kind, attentive, and receptive to all our concerns, ensuring we felt informed and reassured.We would highly recommend Dr. Joseph to anyone seeking a skilled and compassionate urologist. His exemplary bedside manner, combined with his ability to instill confidence and provide clear communication, ensures patients and their families feel supported throughout the entire process.

Arrogant and incompetent, with an inflated reputation.

Joseph performed a radical prostatectomy on me for low grade prostate cancer in 2022. After the surgey, Joseph tells me 'I have good news, we were able to spare the nerves'. Ten days later I am told by his loyal sidekick Katie Bates that Joseph removed my left nerve bundle. So Joseph flat out lied to me. Joseph never submitted left nerve bundle to pathology. In addition, the drainage tube that is supposed to be removed the day after surgery, I had to keep for 5 additional days. My medical record does not mention left nerve bundle removal at all and after a year I found out that Joseph placed that important information in 'secret' notes only U of R Urlology personnel can read. Talk about a great way to hide Joseph's mistakes during surgery. Note that Joseph has a significant amount of surgeries that have complications but that statistic is never shared with patient before the surgery. In fact, although they are quick to mention 4000 surgeries, no statistics of surgeries are provided

Dr. Joseph is an outstanding urologist, friendly with obvious respect to this writer in all visits. He explains questions regarding content of visits and procedures, needless to say, he demonstrates solid knowledge of urology as evidenced by his response to questions. I will recommend Dr.Joseph without reservation, if ever asked about his care for patients. He represents full competence in urology.

During the week of June 27 I placed four phone calls to his office to get my prescription renewed. Each time I was told that the Dr. will call me back, but there were no callbacks. Friday, July 2 I called the office, in the morning, and was told that Katie Bates, PA had still had not authorized the prescription and she and Doctor Joseph were not available. Around 4:00 PM I called again and was told by the receptionist that Katie Bates would not authorize the prescription until I made an appointment to see her. Her earliest availability was Friday, July 9th. That would mean that I would go needlessly without my PSA medicine for Two weeks! I am at a loss to explain why Dr. Joseph has treated me so rudely. Currently I am seeking a better urologist; I am totally disgusted with Dr. Joseph and Katie Bates.

I have never had any urologist procedures until recently, but I just had a cystoscopy, and a 12-point prostate snip for enlarged prostate/high PSA, one right after the other with Dr. Joseph. Needless to say, I was nervous after hearing from others about these invasive procedures. What a surprise how easy it was with Dr. Joseph…he did an amazing job. No pain, only a little discomfort. Both procedures were over in just minutes. I was on my feet and going home right after that, with no after effects. He gave me a phone call one week later with the results. He is a good guy, I highly recommend Dr. Joseph, his P.A. Katie, and support staff.

Dr Joseph is the ultimate professional and I felt extremely comfortable with him performing my prostate cancer surgery procedure. He is highly regarded as one of the pioneers in robotic surgery for the prostate, and his reputation is well deserved based on my own excellent outcome. The procedures, both the biopsy and surgery, were fully and clearly explained by the surgeon. Dr Joseph also personally followed up with me in the hospital the day after the surgical procedure. Probably the only drawback in having a top notch doctor is due to his extremely busy schedule, the scheduled office followups after surgery are done by a competent physician assistant rather than the doctor himself.

Dr Joseph performed robotic surgery on me and I couldn't be more please with his level of expertise, friendliness & great staff. They made all the arrangements for us to stay at R.I.T. hotel w/a shuttle to URMC Strong Memorial hospital. It really took a lot of the pressure off of early arrival for surgery, parking etc when coming from out of town it's a blessing. He'completed over 4,000 & came highly recommended by a friend who had the same surgery successfully in 2005.

I have been seeing Dr Joseph for six years. I drive 3 hours for my appointments, so that ought to tell you something about how I feel about him. Not only is he an excellent Dr. , but also very easy to talk to. He makes you feel like he is genuinely interested in you as a person, not just a patient. I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs an excellent urologist.

Dr.Joseph performed my special TURP surgery on prostate when I could not urinate at all! Other urologists said I would never urinate again! I have been urinating well since Dr. Joseph did the surgery in 2009. He is considered a top urologist in entire northeast, especially with his groundbreaking robotic and laser surgery. I could not be happier with his level of professional care. Highly recommend him!
