My experience with Dr. Patel has been that he listens to all concerns and addresses them, is caring, and goes the extra mile to make patients feel more at ease. He gives recommendations about ways to more easily know how well your heart is doing. I think that his general kindness is probably his best character asset. If you ask about new treatments, he is able to say if they fit your situation.

At all costs if you're a heart failure patient do not seek treatment from Dr Patel. He is not up to speed on some crucial new medications and procedures. He does not even offer the revolutionary Cardiomems implant from Abbott. Nor was it ever suggested I take the new life changing heart failure medication Entresto. Dr Patel seems to rest on his laurels and be happy with that. I also have reason to believe that his ego may at times interfere with his judgment. I was admitted the hospital because I retaining fluid I was unable to manage. My Care Team indicated it would take two to days to take the fluid and get me to a safe place. In less than a day and a half, Dr Patel bust in my room and says he's discharged me. Thank goodness the Vidant Hospital and The Care Team weren't good with it and would not let him do it. Go Vidant. I can only surmise that Dr Patel's ego saw me as a threat to his precious reputation. I fired Dr Patel or else I wouldn't have been able to write this.

Dr. Patel was the first step in saving my life. After having a massive heart attack at 39yrs old and undergoing double by-pass for blockages the cardiologist at Wake Medical released me for 6 months stating I was recovering well. I was on O2 24hrs a day. I could not walk more than 100ft without stopping due to shortness of breath and fatigue. My primary MD did not agree with the Dr. at Wake and sent me for a 2nd opinion to Dr. Patel. By the time I left his office I had an external defibulator i
