23 years of good service
Good diagnoses. Always able to answer questions. Sent me immediately for testing when he thought it was needed. Consistently good experiences. Sometimes there is a wait, but that’s the case with most docs.

Dr. Shiver is the best. He’s been my primary for 21 years and is an excellent listener, responds to my questions, and diagnoses accurately. Wonderful care. I often recommend him.

Nice man but always horribly late, like 90 minutes. At the height of the Covid pandemic people were allowed in the office without masks on. Dr. Shiver seems very AMA oriented. I once had a physician that knew the AMA, allopathic stuff cold and also was on top of legitimate alternative modalities based on real science. That mix isn't what was available at Athens Family Medicine, and a balance of the two is best IMHO. Also they don't post lab results until the doctor has seen them, whereas I'd like them available ASAP. I have to find another physician.

I have waited many times over an hour and a half. Today I had an 8:00 appointment, was the second patient of the day and waited 2 hours. If I wasn’t sick I would have left.

I really like Dr Shiver himself. He seems to listen. But the wait time is outrageous. I tend to waste around 2 hours there for a 10-min consult. Something has to be done. I know he sees urgent cases but maybe there should be a dedicated time period only for those and no regular patients scheduled for then not to back up the wait line.

While Dr. Shiver is a good Doctor and a nice person it is very irritating to routinely have to wait an hour and a half to two hour past your appointment timed to see him. And there seems to be a very high turn over rate in his office staff. A few years ago it was stable. Now it seems there are different people there every time I have an appointment, I am disappointed to see what's happened.

I changed from a terrible facility to Dr Shriver based on reviews. Big mistake. He is nice and seems concerned but the efficiency of this office is awful! I had a total of 4 visits in 6 months time. Never waited less than two hours in the waiting room and after that wait time, spent another 35-45 minutes waiting in the exam room. I was told I needed to set up appointment with the diabetic counselor and tried for two weeks to do so but never reached them nor got a call back.

Dr. Shiver is very laid back and easy to talk to. He sits down with you, listens and answers questions without rushing through the visit. He prescribes medications based on what's best for you and not what's best for the drug company.

Worst doctor ever. For starters, the wait times in both the waiting room and exam room are atrocious. An hour each. Then, he could not diagnose a herniated disc. He never even had me tested in any capacity. No x-rays, nothing. He felt my back and told me not to sit, stand or lean over and sent me on the way.
