Exceptional Care with Compassion and Expertise
I have been a patient of Dr. James Rankin for the past four years, and I can confidently say that he is an outstanding internist. He is highly professional, with excellent bedside manners that immediately put patients at ease. His knowledge is always up to date, and he takes the time to ask the right questions, ensuring a thorough and accurate assessment. One of the things I appreciate most is that I have never felt rushed during an appointment. Dr. Rankin truly listens, carefully considers all concerns, and provides clear and thoughtful explanations. His sense of humor adds a personal touch, making visits more comfortable while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Additionally, his follow-through is impeccable—if something requires follow-up, I know it will be handled efficiently.I highly recommend Dr. Rankin to anyone seeking a competent, compassionate, and dedicated physician.

Dr. Rankin is caring and really listens. I had a problem that three different doctors tried to figure out. Dr. Rankin finally solved the riddle. It was a medication that I had been taking for over 20 years. I would recommend Dr. Rankin to anyone.

Terrible physical
Was billed twice. Once for an office visit and a wellness check. Only went for a physical. 10 minutes total, listened to my heart and they took my blood pressure. Because I still have high blood pressure, they billed for an office visit too. Shouldn’t that be a part of a physical?

Arrogant and dismissive
Rankin needs to take a course or two in communicating with patients. He is curt, condescending, and impatient. He acts annoyed by questions and actually laughed at me for asking a COVID related question. He included a diabetes diagnosis in my record that wasn't accurate because he said my lab results were 'close enough.' Rankin is the kind of doctor who tells women whatever is wrong with them is due to their weight. He had a staff member hand me a folder of information on heart failure when he'd never mentioned a heart issue to me at all. It was very upsetting. I filed a complaint with OMG about his actions toward me but nothing ever came of it. I might refer my worst enemy to him but no one else.

Not for me
Omg placed me with him as my new dr after mine left. I had my first appointment with him and was not happy. He talked more about himself than listening to me. I'm going to find another provider.

I would not see this doctor again or recommend. The staff that worked with him was very kind but he would not listen to me and blew off what I shared about a CHRONIC condition I have. Took less than a minute to look at previous chart notes and did not take my medical history into consideration. Then when I explained things that made the condition worse those were the only options of help he offered. Was convinced to flush my ear with water (which I had expressly explained makes it worse) and it in fact resulted in more pain and dizziness. Left worse off than before.

Not likely at this point. He'll eventually get it.
It would be helpful if, when he's not sure, to say so and suggest a possible attack. Also he could try a disarming smile, maybe even shake hands, show some compassion and empathy, and ultimately drop the defenses for a kind and caring ear. No need to prove anything. Just be on the patient's side.
