The worst beside manner
A few years ago I had a back injury so severe and debilitating I could barely walk. I finally went to a doctor after an ER visit. Mahlek’s nurse was incredibly rude and short, almost as rude and short as he was. The first thing he said after reviewing my CT was “I guess I believe your story now”. I’ve never been treated so unprofessionally in my life. I received no further treatment except for scheduling an MRI. It was like pulling teeth to get the MRI scheduled. I decided to go to a different physician and received much better care. When I explained this to the staff at New West, they got mad and hung up on me. The culture this doctor is creating in his practice is abhorrent and toxic and you’d do well to find a better class of surgeon. I did and I’m thankful for it. My livelihood was restored by a much more professional and compassionate surgeon.

Dr. Mahalek has assembled an exceptional team to perform a surgical procedure on my wife's cervical vertebra. The attention to detail, patient care and process from start to finish is the epitome of what a surgical procedure should be. His patience, time and attention to detail to explain and answer questions made us feel comfortable from the start. We highly recommend Dr. Mahalek and were blessed he performed this procedure. His experience, skill sets as a surgeon and care for the patient is rare. The post surgery follow up has been just as exceptional. We can't thank you enough.

Rude, does not listen to the patient, could not be bothered with the patient cause he busy with other people, etc. . He was mad that the patient was there because of Covid-19 and stated he would come after us if he got sick . First statement out of his mouth walking in the door. Only one star since I can not give him less.

I went to see Dr. Mahalek four years ago about my back pain. He answered all my questions. He explained how my condition will go over time. I took about four years before I decided on surgery. Everything went as he explained and I should have done it years ago. Dr. Mahalek and his staff were great and even when I had some issues over the first weekend with spams after surgery they called back right away and changed some meds. I can't say enough good about Dr. Mahalek and his whole team.

I found out from another doc that I had arthritis in my back and was referred to him. He basically told me I wasn't surgery qualified, lose weight and go back to work. I eventually got the surgery from another surgeon n feel much better no thanks to this Dr. Mahalek. I wud never see this doc unless of an emergency. Also he and his nurse come into the room without knocking.

Dr. Mahalek was able to relieve my pain and the numbness in my hand by doing the neck surgery. I really didn't have any options but he made sure he explored every avenue before sending me to surgery. Overall, he took the time to make me feel extremely comfortable.
