How Not to Practice Medicine
What stood out during my visit with Dr. Gold was that he was awful. One of the worst doctors I've ever encountered. He never requested blood labs. Jumped to pea brain opinions. One of UCLA's many liabilities. Waste of my time and money.

He has the worst bedside manner. Highly arrogant and very unpleasant experience with this doctor. If you have other choices go to them not this doctor.

Inappropriate and condescending
I don't think I have ever had a worse experience with a doctor than with Dr. Gold. He was condescending, rude, and inappropriate with me. I will NEVER go back nor recommend him to anyone, especially not young women.

Does not listen
not great. He was condescending and did not listen. He rushed to a diagnosis and made me feel like my questions annoyed him. I see the other reviews and notice that he seems to not listen to his female patients. Maybe he isn't aware of his innate bias but whatever it is - it's not excellent patient care. And I expect that from UCLA.

I rue the day I walked into the office of Dr. J. Gold. He is definitely the worst doctor I’ve ever had and at 76, I’ve had quite a few. And I walked in feeling fine, mind you. He looked at a blood test that was more than a year old and said, “You’re taking too much thyroid.” I have hypothyroidism and have been treated for it for over 30 years and was now on 90 mg. for about 10 years. He became hyper-focused on this even though it was not a problem. He demanded that I lower the dose to 60mg. This aggressive push caused me to feel ill with hot flashes and night sweats. He was unphased by this so I went to a gyn who ordered a specific thyroid blood test to be done in 1 month and prescribed 90 mg. This test result was normal but the plunge to 60 mg. created a crash to my system that has been very difficult to recover from. I've had intense brain fog, exhaustion and major loss of hair. I'm back on 90 mg but still feel ill. Dr. Gold is dangerous and untrustworthy. (also see review #3)

Dr. Gold is a wonderful physician. He has such a nice demeanor, has wonderful active listening and interpersonal communication skills. Both my husband and I patients of Dr. Gold. My husband, who is not the easiest patient, is very picky about his doctors and he likes Dr. Gold very much. I especially love the convenient location too.

Dr. Gold is THE MAN!!! He is the most personable, professional, and well versed medical professional I have ever gone to. His office staff are equally personable & professional. The office is clean, comfortable and conveniently located. I never feel like im being rushed unlike EVERY other doctor you visit. Visits are easy to schedule with the cool ap they have available. He listens to whats wrong and tells you his honest & educated diagnoses. Literally the only doctor I actually look forward to visiting! Thanks for keeping me in tip-top condition Dr. Gold!

Went to urgent care at UCLA in Santa Monica for an ultrasound of thyroid. I saw Dr. Gold, and he told me I had a common cold and that the ultrasound was not urgent (even after two other specialists told me to book an expedited thyroid imaging appointment). Instead of Dr. Gold advocating for the urgent ultrasound, he neglected to listen to my symptoms and concerns. Following leaving the appointment with Dr. Gold with no help or advocacy on my behalf, I intuitively took myself to the ER to do the ultrasound to which a large potentially cancerous nodule was found. Had I listened to Dr. Gold’s ‘common cold’ and ‘swollen lymph node’ diagnosis, I may have missed a serious cancer tumor. If you ask for his advice, get an urgent second opinion.
