Dr. Jacalyn Kawiecki, MD

My mother broke her kneecap and had emergency surgery. Shes elderly, my step-dad died months ago so she's alone, all family (me) lives 4.5 hours away. My elderly mother, with no support within OVER a 200 mile radius, who has a broken kneecap, according to this physician does NOT require inpatient rehab. The exact wording is 'You have no complex nursing needs to support this request' followed by more statements such as this and 'This decision is not intended to limit your care. Your treatment choices are between you and your provider.' Well, except this treatment plan her doctor requested and appealed against the first denial. This requested treatment plan seems to be between this doc and the insurance company. She is listed as the external reviewer that confirmed the denial. I might lose my job because I drove the 4 hours to get here to care for her., which I can only do 4 total days. Also, the treatment plan they claim shes on is untrue.

Excellent bedside manner, listens to all my concerns, explains to me everything that's going on and what the plan is on a level I can understand. Very knowledgeable.

She spent a great deal of time taking my medical history and did a thorough physical examination. Her knowledge base is fantastic and explanation of my diagnoses and plan of care were easily understood in layman's terms. Was on time. Highly recommend!

What a nightmare! She does not even specialize in orthopedics. It's not on her list of credentials. She attested to multiple wrong diagnoses that belonged to another patient and others that the patient to this day does not have. When she was informed of this she would not respond. She had received a correction from a doctor whose staff documented another patient's diagnosis on the wrong order and it cost me all my PT visits. The information in her review was from 2020 not 2021. The insurance company was no better as they sent this to an inapplicable doctor. This said doctor should never have accepted this review based on her merits or in this case lack of them.
