Dr Underhill was the reason we left getting care at the UofU after nearly 18 years. My older brother and I both have glycogen storage disease type 3. When our doctor there had a stroke, underhill took her place. We were his first type 3 patients I think he ever saw and also the biggest ego. I was 16 at the time and felt incredibly uncomfortable in his care and being examined by him since he talked down to me the entire time as if I hadn’t already lived with the disease for 16 year. He be raided my mother in front of us with no real context of our medical history. At one point while belittling my brother, mom, and me. He hands us a list of the foods we should be eating (since we weren’t perfectly following the strict guideline diet), anyway he hands us this list of snacks and my mom stops him and asks, “do you know when and who wrote this list? I did, 10 years ago and gave it to the previous doctor to help other families”. But underhill continued on telling us how dumb we all were and that my brother was going to drop dead any day now. It’s several years later and we are both doing great! Avoid this doctor at all costs if you have GSD, especially any type other than 1. He will just try and treat you medically as a type 1.
