Dr. Howard Zaren, MD

Dr Z is the best of the best! He did my surgery for my melanomas, he got straight to business and save my life! He is caring, I can’t even describe how much I am thankful for him being put into my life. Thank you, The hospital should be proud to have hem.

I have been a patient of Dr. Zaren's for 10 years. He was recommended to me by my surgeon in Chicago, after I relocated to Savannah from Chicago. In fact, my surgeon in Chicago stated emphatically that Dr. Zaren mentored him at MD Anderson and was a provider of the highest integrity. He also stated that Dr. Zaren is one of the finest breast cancer surgeons in the United States. Since, 2010, Dr. Zaren has managed my post-breast cancer status (surgery and radiation therapy) medically. Additionally, he monitors all features of post-operative medical management, including regular appointments for follow-up breast cancer exams, x-rays, bone density, oral chemotherapy, etc. I could not be more supportive of his work. Any woman who has dealt with this diagnosis will understand when I say that I know I am safe with him.

Am I allowed to say that I love this doctor?? He is perhaps the best gift a patient could ask for when diagnosed with cancer-Other than receiving the news that they are cancer-free. He has made me feel as if I was his top priority, even though I knew he had many others that needed his expertise and care even more than I did. His wit and plain speaking made me approach my diagnosis with confidence and optimism, and I needed his care, his pointed conversation, and his undeniable expertise to focus my efforts and participation in cancer survival. He made the difference in the way I approached things, and I am eternally grateful. He's the real deal, and if you are fortunate enough to be in his care, you can be assured he is the best doctor you can ask for.

I saw Dr.Zaren for a lump in my leg. Biopsies were inconclusive and he insisted on total calf removal with radiation to follow. I asked if he would send to pathology before complete removal of calf and he said NO. He was very rude!! I left and went to Mayo instead and only the lump was removed there and pathology report said it was only a cyst!! Thank you Lord!!! Get a second opinion!!

My experience with Dr. Zaren has been so much more than expected! Since my plastic surgeon referred me for that first appointment, he has been there for me 110%. He is kind, thorough, and funny (yes, funny!). His staff works harder than any other, as they are frequently having to rearrange his schedule. If you have cancer, you could not be in better hands!!

Excellent doctor. Wonderful staff. From the first consult to today, I knew he would be there for me. Now 3 1/2 years after my surgery, I owe my life to him. I can never repay you for your excellent care. Thank you, Dr Zaren!
