Unprofessional conduct during/after facial surgery
Surgery by Dr Himansu Shah assured will be “good to go” 3 weeks after surgery; instead it took 6 months. The surgery was in his clinic and not in a hospital. Dr Shah neglected my well-being during the surgery. Right in the middle of surgery, he took personal call. He pulled my skin too aggressively and I asked him to add anesthesia; he replied, “yes I will”. No apology for hurting me while on phone call. He was always rude and short; especially when giving him feedback that he did not like hearing. After 3 months of pain, he finally prescribed cream that I was allergic to and I got infection; He was not helpful after surgery and showed no concern to see. I sent him pictures to see.The surgery was done aggressively and not professionally. Dr Shah’s excuse was “you signed a waiver”. Signing a waiver does not mean a lousy Doctor can do as he wishes, and it does not mean he can be protected from any wrongdoing. He left me with an ugly face; and refused to take responsibility or help.

I had a lower facial and chin lift that ended up in disaster. One of my scars, which was very low, opened up. When I returned with the open scar, Dr. Shah commented that he wondered if the suture would remain secure, which suggests he had misgivings about his suture work when I left his office. The scar is so low and uneven with folds that I will never be able to wear my hair up again. People noticed and I did not go to the gym for a year. Also, my ears look like 'pixie' ears and I can no longer keep ear buds in them. Both plastic surgeons I saw afterwards (I did not disclose Dr. Shah's name) commented that the location of the scarring and pixie ears could have been avoided. I will have the procedure redone in one year at my own cost, but there is nothing that can be done to fix the lower scar or my ears.

Caveat Emptor! Do not use this doctor for facial surgery. I went to Dr. Shaw for a lower lift seeking specifically a smoother jawline. Sadly, the result has left me with thick scars on the front of both ears. Also my ear was deformed during the surgical process and I can no longer use EarPods as they constantly fall out. Finally, there is no smooth jaw line. I have what looks like a paunch under my chin. In my follow up visits to Dr. Shah, he basically dismissed my concerns and advised me to use a silicone scar gel which did little to improve the problem. After almost a year, I then decided to consult with two other cosmetic surgeons recommended to me. Both explained that the damage would require a complete redo at significant cost. Through the mediation process, Dr. Shah did offer to work on my scars but I had no confidence in his capabilities by then. When you see a cosmetic surgeon advertising on Groupon be very wary.

Do not go to him for breast reconstruction. He refused to put in the size I wanted and insisted on 700 cc.(way too big). My breasts now appear odd and mismatched. They get droopier every day. I also have been diagnosed by an ortho with "frozen shoulder" because I was never sent to a Physical Therapist post-surgery by Dr. Shah, EVEN THOUGH I REQUESTED it. Ortho told me that now, two years later, it is permanent due to lack of P.T. I found Dr. Shah to be quite condescending and smug, possibly because I was a double-mastectomy patient with no large amount of money to be made on me? Do not let him near you if you need reconstructive surgery. My left arm is always in pain. The thought of him makes me ill. May I also add, three other MDs, who shall remain nameless, felt he did not do a decent job and disliked his attitude also. I have seen many physicians, and have had different therapies and tests, and he was like a bad sore to me.

I am a breast cancer patient of Dr. Shah’s. Although I have undergone what is supposed to be my reconstruction, I am left very disfigured, and now realize that this doctor that I trusted doesn’t care about how I look at all because I’m an “insurance” patient as he called me, and not a “cosmetic” patient. He may do good work for the cosmetic patients, and the staff is nice, but if you have breast cancer DO NOT GO TO HIM. My disfigurement and the depression it’s causing just didn’t matter to him.

Dr. Shah himself is good. Good listener. However do not do a pre op with Caroline. Despite being in a consult for nearly four hours (as there were no other appts) She failed to help me achieve my desired DD size. I even emailed her pictures that she did NOT show Dr. Shah. I asked for a pain pump to be ordered (she did not order one). She also FORGOT to call in my prescription for pain meds and lied about it! There are articles on bias in pain assessment and I wonder if that is what happened here
