Quick and accurate

Called last night because my daughter was in tears with a stomach ache. I was prepared for the usual bacterial, viral, what did she eat conversation. But this doctor's questions were 'when' did she last eat, can she jump up and down? Sent us to the ER to get her appendix tested and told us to make sure the ER has certain equipment to accurately test her so we didn't go and waste time. She was right, it was appendicitis. They caught it early. That was last night and today she is resting from surgery on her way to recovery. I didn't sense any rudeness, just got to the point and I'm so grateful. If we hadn't gone in last night who knows if they would have caught it in time. Thank you Dr Books!

Mis-prescribed medications
Telehealth
We had a teledoc appointment with Dr Books. She was short with us, but that didn't bother me. What did bother me is upon researching the medications she prescribed for my son's diagnosis, she under-dosed him for one medication; and for the other, it is documented and well researched that what she prescribed for his common skin ailment is not effective. We requested a refund from teledoc, which can take up to 45 days, and made an appointment with another provider. Makes me wonder how long has she been mis-prescribing people for this?!

Rude - Would give 0 stars if possible
Telehealth
Requested a teledoc visit through my insurance for my son & Dr. Books was unfortunately assigned our case. Throughout the conversation Dr. Books repeatedly cut me off, spoke over me & became increasingly more condescending. Eventually I stated that I wasn’t sure why she was being so rude & she tells me it’s because she cares about my son, and it seems I do not understand the severity of flippantly giving him a specific medication previously given by a Dr. I explained that I wasn’t just going to give it to him, I was calling to get advice from a professional. She then threatened that the call was recorded & she was happy to play it back. I stopped talking as I’m fighting back tears & as she continued to berate me I realized that she was talking about a completely different medication than what I requested. I then told her that I saw the disconnect, she did not listen to my request & reexplained what I was asking. She never acknowledged or addressed her unprofessional behavior.

If I could give her zero stars I would. We decided to do a teladoc visit for a rash that my 4 month old son has. Unfortunately, Dr. Books was the doctor that we received. As a new mom, I just wanted a piece of mind before we call our pediatrician in the morning. When we first spoke with her we told her that we were worried of a milk allergy or some sort of allergy and she asked of any new products. We told her about the lotion we’ve been using which is “Babyganics” literally from target. She proceeded to say “i’ve never hear of that and i’ve been pediatrician for 20 years.” The whole conversation was a waste of time. She was very condescending the whole time and interrupted me multiple times. She told us the everything our pediatrician is telling us is wrong. By the end of the phone call I was in tears because of how rude she was. I would never recommend anybody ever see her unless you want to be talked down on for 10-20 minutes.

Terrible Doctor!
After reading previous reviews by parents, I’m not at all surprised by the negative encounter I just had with Dr. Books. I am trying to give her a bit of a pass working as an emergency pediatrician, but at the same time, phone visits require an approach that reflects compassion, empathy, and care. Also, I opted for a video visit and she did not show her face. She seems to me the type of person (note, I said person not doctor) who lords her superiority over patients instead of taking the time to actually listen. If she really listened, she’d hear the frustration, suffering, and fear in the parents of their sick children. She should be working with the geriatric population, where their generation was taught to believe that the doctor knows best and doesn’t question the integrity of the doctor. I fear for any parent of sick children who is seen by this doctor.

Tummy Issues
I did a tela doc visit through my insurance and the visit didn’t go too great. Her tone and manner was rather rude and even kind of pointed the finger at me or my pediatricians I’ve been here. She asked if I knew the definition of constipation as if I wasn’t able to see what was wrong with my kid. She needs to be a bit more empathetic.

I took my daughter, 2 years old, to the ER because she had stuck a tissue ripped up into a zillion pieces into her nose as far as she could and I couldn’t get it all out. I waited for hours and Dr. Books just basically ignored my attempts at conversation or questions, quickly ran the little tool through my daughter’s nose which pulled out the remaining pieces, rolled her eyes and walked out. Super unprofessional and uncaring, in my opinion.

Dr Books assisted with my child's emergency room visit to stitch up a facial dog bite. Her bedside manner, though professional, felt distant and uncaring. She acknowledged our concern about scarring from stitches, but her work was not clean and in fact healed poorly. Our overall impression was that she had no compassion or concern for my child who expressed discomfort and fear several times during the procedure, and just wanted to get it done as fast as possible. Summerlin Hospital can do better
