Absolute Best
I've been a patient of Dr. Akins for 15+ years. She detected the early stage of cancer and a heart valve concern - both of which have been corrected - both of which, left untreated would have life ending. She is courteous, engaged, detailed, professional and has made a profound difference in my medical treatements. She is the Absolute Best and I owe her my life. Thank you.

A nightmare made worse
If you’re going to be a patient with Dr. Akins, try not to die. She took months and months to sign a family member’s death certificate and her staff blocked our number so we couldn’t get answers about what was taking so long. We couldn’t move forward with closure or paperwork until we had this certificate. I had to call from a random number just to get through to the practice manager and ended up having to go into their office. Dealing with a death is so hard and this office and Dr. Akins made it so much worse.

Dr. Akins is just awesome.
I have been a patient of Dr. Akins for 20 years. I have always received thoughtful, insightful, exemplary care. She is open minded, family oriented and truly cares about her patients. I never feel rushed during a visit, and yet I also never have to wait forever to see her once I get there. The time management of the office has always been great. I trust Dr. Akins, and I highly recommend her.

I have been seeing Dr. Akins since the early 2000's and have had nothing but great experiences with her and her staff. I have not had a single issue with her office. My previous PCP before Dr. Akins had no bedside manner and was just horrible. He acted like he really didn't have a clue s a doctor. I left him and hit the jackpot with Dr. Akins.

Both my daughter and I have been patients of Dr. Akins for over a decade. She has the best PA and the best medical assistant I have ever had the pleasure of working with. There are times when I've had to wait up to 45 minutes to see her because she was running behind, but that is because she is so thorough. She will, in turn, spend 45 minutes with me. I feel certain this is because her training as a DO. Her PA is thorough as well, but I've never had to wait more than five minutes to see her. You can always get a same day appointment when needed. Her medical assistant is always responsive when I need a call back or refills. I also love the fact that you can get your blood drawn there. They don't send you out to another appointment with a lab. And the woman who draws blood is a pro! All this to say, you'd be lucky to be her patient. She's the best primary care doctor I've ever had in my adult life!

I’m putting in a review because I came across this and cannot believe the rating. Dr Akins has been my doctor for over 15 years. She is amazing. I am so thankful for her for helping me accept a Diagnosis that I did not want to accept. She is patien, through, knowledgeable and has impecable Bedside manners. How many doctors can you say that about. I have refered many friends and family to dr Akins and they too have remained her patien.

I don't understand why Dr Akins has such a low rating, but I have been going to her for over 10 years (with a 3 year break when we moved to San Antonio). She may seem in a hurry at times because she does talk fast, but she is very thorough & will answer all questions or concerns. I really missed the quality of care when we were in San Antonio, so once we moved back I knew I wanted to go back to her as my primary doctor.

Myself, and my family, have been patients of Dr. Akins for the last 10-12 years. She always listens to your concerns in detail, before prescribing meds or a treatment plan, and I feel like she truly cares for us like extended family. I will continue being a patient, as long as my insurance is accepted, which for 1 year, it was not, but that was due to the BCBS moving everyone from PPO to HMO. The reason for the 4 stars is due to the lengthy wait, once you're back in your exam room.

Dr Akins has been my doctor for approximately 14yrs. I absolutely love her! She is very caring and compassionate and best of all nonjudgmental. Her office staff is great and they have all become like family to me. I am self-pay and they have always found ways to make sure I get the care I need.
