Dr. Hayden Boyce, MD

Boyce performed an intrathecal pump implant on me in Aug, 2023. He used glue to close the 7' surgical incision in my lower left abdomen, but carelessly left a 0.5' gap in the middle open to the air. I was discharged to inpatient rehab with Boyce's approval and no comment or concern about the open gap. In the following several weeks, the gap scabbed over but failed to heal properly. Soon after it became badly infected and I was prescribed antibiotics. However, that treatment failed to prevent the gap from suddenly opening to 2' in late Oct., exposing the pump and necessitating emergency removal. Boyce & team visited bedside the night before surgery, telling me the situation was all because of my thin build. He was <2 min in my room, then nearly an hour at the nurses station outside my door having a lively conversation about his daughters. To make matters worse, he failed to make me aware he used nylon stitches in the secondary lower back wound, there unbeknownst to me for 6mo!

Went to my 3rd vist with Dr. Boyce. My last 2 visits were rushed and he didnt seem to want to listen to what I was saying.

Dr Boyce was wonderful. However, I had my appointment bumped to a much later date do to no fault of my own . This was totally unfair.

He was alarmed when he saw how low my generator was and made quick work to schedule surgery the very next day. The left generator was low too but didn't meet the criteria from the insurance company to do both at once.

They were running behind, but receptionist was on it, very apologetic and kept checking for wait time. She did this unprompted. I did not have to ask.

It was good! He was knowledgeable about my condition and willing to help as soon as he could! Friendly, professional and relatable.
