before you have surgery make sure you understand that dr. Hickens is only in the St George office a couple days a week and when you probably will need him he won't be there to help out as you'll be in the hands of another dr. another thing is to make sure you know how much medication you'll get as I was had surgery and after 3 days the associate dr. wouldn't give me any more until the dat on the pres. bottle. Now understand I took the med exactly as the med bottle said to take it. I ran out and couldn't get more for another 2 days and I was in tremendous pain. Also, watch how the staff is run as when the Dr. is away they the play time begins! In other words they are not there for you. Now I do believe Dr. Hickens is a good dr. but everything else I really only give 2 (if 2) stars unfortunitly .

In my lifetime, I've had more than 18 orthopedic surgeons as my doctor, 12 joint surgeries, managed three orthopedic practices and worked as a consultant to hundreds in 117 countries around the world. This is "the one" you want taking care of you. Gifted, caring, and grounded. Versed in all orthopedic problems, skilled using all the joint replacement robots, and MacGyver when he needs to be. The surgical team just loves working with him which means he has the support of the team. And last but never least, a 16 year USAF veteran. And at the end of the day he's a humble and faithful servant, husband, father, brother, and grandpa, who is also a surgeon. Bless his family for sharing him with all of us when we need him.

I was in desperate need of two knee replacements when I arrived in Cache Valley!! I was having a difficult time finding a surgeon I felt was a good match for me, had decent bedside manner and the skills and reputations to put me at ease regarding such major surgeries! From the moment I met Dr. Hicken, I knew I was in excellent hands! We scheduled the first surgery on the same day. He explained what would take place from start to finish. I knew just what to expect. His bedside manner is fantastic! He's got a great sense of humor, a great way of talking to his patients so that they understand what he is saying, without dumbing down the material he is explaining. My surgery went perfectly and my recovery went even better! I couldn't be happier and can't wait to have my next knee replaced. His staff also deserves mentioning and a five star rating as well! Thanks Dr. Hicken and Staff @ AOS!! Well done!

Dr. Hicken did a successful surgery on my wrist that was shattered for 2 inches up the arm. The bone at the hand barely was staying connected. But he did a great job to keep it intact, and save the situation (caused by a tubing accident). He put about 4 screws in my hand and arm to steady things while it healed, along with a bar that stuck out about an inch or two. I did Physical Therapy for a few months. It is nearly 20 years later, and that wrist has been strong and flexable.

Dr. Hicken just did my knee scope. He was awesome. He quieted my fears by explaining the procedure and even asked if I wanted to have a CD of the scope. He was kind and compassionate and made me feel very comfortable. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great listener, kind physician and good man!
