Focused UltraSound with MRI for Tremor - Hand
On 9 July 2024 I had the subject procedure accomplished under the care of Dr. Baltuch & his team at Columbia NeuroSurgery, where the non-surgical procedure was done at NY Presbyterian Weill Cornell Hospital. I had been searching for years to calm the Essential or Familial Tremor in both hands using non-surgical means, primarily medications. Then I learned about Dr. Baltuch and the use of Focused UltraSound from a friend whose parent had the procedure done 3 years previously. All I can say is that from the time of my first consultation with him in March 2024 until the procedure was done in July, Dr. Baltuch, his Nurses, Maria & Anne, and his Admin, Lana, ALWAYS made themselves immediately available for questions and re-assurances!!!, as well as complete information & guidance for what & when to expect. I couldn't be more happy at the result. I now have the ability to print & write with my predominate hand again, as well as hold a glass of liquid & use a spoon for drinking soup!

DBS Success
I had DBS performed by Dr. Gordon Baltuch in April 2024 at the age of 54. I met him about one year prior to surgery, and he answered all of my questions about DBS and FUS. As I continued to research the procedures, my questions mounted and I made several more appointments. Dr. Baltuch is kind and down to earth. He patiently answered all of my questions, and at no time did I feel rushed. He even asked about my family and support system. Dr. Baltuch’s team, including Maria and Lana, are also terrific.Dr. Baltuch performed all three DBS procedures at once while I was under general anesthesia for about 6 hours. You can barely see the device implanted in my chest, and Dr. Baltuch only shaved a few patches of hair. Two weeks after surgery, my programming results were amazing. My dystonia and dyskinesia mostly gone. My difficulty swallowing and low voice gone. My rigidity much improved. DBS changed my life. I owe it all to Dr. Baltuch. I cannot recommend him enough.

A neurosurgeon with healing hands
Dr Baltuch is amazing all around! He always spends a lot of time with me during office visits; I never feel rushed. He always acts with the patience of a saint giving me 110% of his attention, listening with genuine interest & making me feel empowered, as he completely/clearly answers my questions. His office environment is always relaxing; I am always greeted with a reassuring hand shake, smile & an interest in knowing how myself & family are doing. Had my 1st HIFU with Dr. Baltuch in 2021 at Penn Hospital. Was so impressed that I remained a patient of his, following him when he relocated to CUMC, & having him perform a 2nd HIFU on me 3 wks ago; this time, for my non-dominant hand & without the need for sedation/anxiety meds! He has made himself accessible, giving me his personal cell number, for concerns that may have or will arise. Cannot say enough good things. He is a mensch! If you have an essential hand tremor, make an appt to see Dr Baltuch; he truly has healing hands!

Focused Ultrasound for Essential Tremor
Successful "Focused Ultrasound" for Essential Tremor procedure performed June, 2023. At 87 years of age, the quality of my life has improved dramatically. Thanks to Gordon Baltuch and the "focused ultrasound procedure" he performed, I am able to write, eat, put on makeup and execute other targeted tasks that I haven't been able to perform in over 30 years. This is a non-surgical procedure; no anesthesia is involved and the improvement occurs DURING the procedure. This incredibly innovative treatment should be on the front page of every medical journal, along with Dr. Baltuch and his skill as the neurosurgeon to perform this procedure. Bravo!

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's over 4 years ago. Ultimately, I had to address this issue. I spoke with my family and did my research on the Deep Brain simulation, (DBS), I interviewed several doctors in several geographic areas. We chose Dr. Gordon Baltuch in NYC. Dr. Baltuch performed my DBS over 6 Months ago. The before and after difference is amazing!!

Life Changing!
This was my second time undergoing FUS for my essential tremors. A little more than 9 months ago, Dr. Baltuch and his wonderful staff treated my right side for the tremor. I had an amazing result! I was thrilled to hear that the FDA approved FUS for the other side and booked their first available appointment. The procedure was again a huge success! To now have two steady hands is remarkable! The care and expertise of Dr. Baltuch and his staff was just amazing. Anyone considering doing this procedure would be very well advised to use Dr. Baltuch!

Amazing Result
I've had essential tremor in both hands for 50 years. Medications (Propranolol, Primidone and Xanax) stopped working years ago. I was afraid of DBS because I'm physically very active and didn't want a pacemaker device embedded in my chest. When I became aware of Dr. Gordon Baltuch's revolutionary procedure of MRI focused ultrasound for essential tremor, I booked an appointment right away. Unfortunately, the surgery only works on one hand at a time. The FDA has not yet approved the procedure for the other hand. I have no more tremor at all in my dominant (right) hand. Dr. Baltuch and his staff are amazing. I am forever grateful to Dr. Baltuch for this life altering procedure.

Changed my life.
Dr. Baltuch and his amazing team performed DBS on me and it has been a life changer. Before the surgery, I suffered from tremors and had extreme difficulty walking. After DBS, I am now tremor free and I am able to walk with no problems. My quality of life has increased tremendously and I will be forever grateful to Dr. Baltuch, Hanane, Maria, and the rest of his team!

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)
Dr. Baltuch performed DBS on me in May 2022. He did an excellent job of explaining the surgery, its risks and benefits, and his vast experience with the procedure made me comfortable with the decision to proceed. I experienced no complications and am very satisfied with the positive results that I experienced. I would highly recommend him to any Parkinsons patient considering DBS treatment.

Best dbs
Dr.Baltuch is a doctor who listened to every concern I had and always responded with answers that were easily related to. One of my major concerns was being able to reach him in the event of an emergency or even a question. Upon me voicing that concern he immediately gave me his cell phone number and told me not to hesitate in reaching out for any reason. His constant positive attitude helped me to go into the surgery with less anxiety then I originally had. After surgery he spent a considerable amount of time explaining to my family how the procedure had gone. The first night I got home after surgery he called just to see how I was doing. The operation was a success and I will be forever grateful. I always felt that he was listening to me and never condescending nor unengaged.

My name is Alfred J. Malinowski. I am a Child Psychologist and Clinical Psychotherapist who treats children and adolescents suffering from various types of mental disorders. Presently, I am 65 years old. This is a review of two (2) surgical procedures that were performed on me to correct a brain deficiency known as Essential Tremor (ET). Both procedures used the Magnetic Resonance guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy to ablate a small area of cells in the thalamus, an area of the brain responsible for the transmission of the tremor to the hand. This procedure is non-evasive, which means there is no cutting of tissue. Dr. Gordon Baltuch performed both of these surgeries. The first procedure was a FDA approved surgery performed May 2019, which targeted the thalamus on the left hemisphere of my brain. This surgery corrected a tremor for my right hand which helped me to write letters and to eat and drink out of a cup without spilling any food or liquids. I was taking two (2) dif

Review of Gordon Baltuch, M.D. Phd.
I am a fellowship-trained physician and, after careful research, chose Dr. Baltuch to revise my DBS IPG. Dr. Baltuch's experience is second to none in the field of D.B.S. and his office staff was polite and efficient at getting me onto the schedule at short notice, No issues whatsoever. Dr. Baltuch has a refreshingly good bedside manner and sense of humor. All told, a 5 -star physician and a 5-star office.

Similar bad story here. Dr Baltuch did a DBS surgery on my father and then went on spring break. He created a brain bleed during the surgery and this went unnoticed afterward as he went on vacation. The brain bleed caused a stroke and my father lost the ability to speak and swallow. They put in a feeding tube against his medical directive. When Dr Baltuch got back from vacation he referred to my father as a "Salvage Case". I went out for lobster dinner with my dad the night before his surgery and he was far from salvage status. Another Parkinsons specialist saw my dad during his recovery and said that DBS was not the right option. Dr Baltuch only cares about how many surgeries he does. Quantity definitely does not equal quality.

Dr. Gordon Baltuch performed Focused Ultrasound brain surgery on me December 2018. He was very knowledgeable, kind, clear and helpful in answering all of my presurgery questions. He listened closely to all of my symptoms and gathered all pertinent information from my neurologist and all tests. I even followed up with me by cell phone to ask about any possible side affects days after the surgery... this was on top of his staff calling me. I highly recommend neurosurgeon Dr. Baltuch.

Dr Baltuch is a DBS installation factory. The surgery on my father had complications, and Dr Baltuch was nowhere to be found for weeks afterwards. He should have known that he caused a brain bleed due to worsening cognitive ability, but instead, ignored the symptoms and shipped him off to a rehab facility where he further deteriorated. Find a doctor that follows up, which is not Dr Baltuch. He's much more concerned, based on how he behaved in person, in getting to his next DBS surgery.
