Breach if Standard of Medical Care
As of 2022, according to my knowledge, Dr. Gil Cu is the only treating nephrologist on the island of Kauai. It appears he has some form of professional relationship with Northwest Renal Clinic Inc. While in Kauai I am constrained to the services of Island Kidney Care, the medical service of Dr. Cu and his staff, whom when I reached out in pain as a patient of Dr. Cu's, the admin person replied with dull indifference, saying that my name was not in the system, albeit Dr. Cu had seen me one year prior. After first failing to follow up with me, then with much effort on my part, she gave me an appt. Her interaction with me provoked heightened hypertension and anxiety, such that I cancelled my appt. by mail, including the physicians oath "Do no harm." She shamelessly replied via a certified letter that due to my lack of a “corroborative“ interaction with her, I was no longer to be a patient of Dr. Cu. Unconscionable breach of medical care in Dr. Cu’s name.

Dr. Cu had been my Primary Care Provider (PCP), under AARP Medicare Advantage insurance for over a year. During that time, I only saw his Nurse Practitioner, who was very good. I never saw Dr. Cu. In early February, 2021, I ordered a prescription refill and was told by my pharmacy that I was no longer a patient of Dr. Cu's. I called their office and was told that they no longer were accepting my insurance and was no longer their patient. Having several chronic medical condition, I have to see several specialists regularly and must get referrals for each. Without a PCP, you can't get referrals. Finding a new PCP isn't easy and the worst part is, as a new patient, the wait for your new patient appointment can take over 2 months. With Type II diabetes, Heart Disease and stage 3 kidney disease, I can't wait that long. So, I feel Dr. Cu's office not only let me down by dropping me WITHOUT notice, they have also endangered by health, since I can't now get referrals, as needed.

Very attentive to your issues, his assistant Jusil Rice has really won me over for her truly caring and kind manner. Finally found a doctor wanting to get to health problems.

I started seeing Dr. Cu in '09. He's the most amazing, knowledgeable, and caring doctor I have ever known. One of the few people left today that seems to get true joy from helping those in his care. Every other doctor I see speaks very highly of him, and has the upmost respect for him and the job he does. He has saved my life (more than once now) and is the only doctor I don't loathe going to see. He's actually quite a pleasure. A+++

I've been with Dr Cu since 2006 when he was part of my kidney transplant surgery team at Shands. I see him every 6 months now unless there is interim need. In that time I have had many medical concerns. He responded to each one with expertise and consideration of my feelings. He is a solid doctor I trust completely. He care and is extremely knowledgeable.
