Dr. Gabriel Akopian, MD

If I could give zero stars, I would. Beware! This doctor is the worst. He did a surgery on me unsuccessfully. I found this out 2 weeks after my surgery at my post op appointment. He never called me after the surgery to tell me. I paid thousands of dollars for NOTHING. I missed work for NOTHING. Wait, it gets worse. At the 2 week post op appointment, he informed me that he was taking a sabbatical and that his colleagues would take care of me. Well, multiple calls to the office, no returned calls... I was abandoned by his office.

My experience with Dr. Akopian was just right! He's knowledgeable, competent, professional and reassuring. For such sensitive and potentially embarrassing conditions that one would visit such a doctor for, Dr. Akopian's bedside manner is perfect -- both matter-of-fact and reassuring, normalizing something that many would be reluctant to talk about. I'm very grateful for being referred to Dr. Akopian.

Dr. Akopian was very nice and professional. His assistant, however, is extremely unprofessional. I called 10 days after my appointment to check on the status of approval for surgery, and she informed me that the office had been closed for training, and that she is behind her work. She informed me that it will take 1 - 2 weeks for her to catch up, and that the Dr. is going on vacation at the end of July. Then she tells me well, you have an HMO I asked if that means I get lower quality care??

Dr. Akopian was a great doctor, but he is hiring a wrong assistant. The assistant was so lazy and always had an excuse that she was always busy and couldn't do the authorization paper for me. I called back and she kept saying that it was not urgent, so you had to wait. Call back again, kept saying it is not urgent, you had to wait. It has been more than 1 month, and it still didn't get any news from the office. Now it is kind of becoming an urgent now. I had to see another specialist.
