Thorough, respectful, and direct
Dr. Malensek accepted my recently widowed family member as a new patient about 2 years ago. The physical challenges of aging in this situation are compounded by grief coupled with new cognitive and longstanding behavioral issues. He reviewed the medical history thoroughly. He made adjustments to the prescriptions, changing dosage and choice of medication based on updated bloodwork. This immediately decreased the frequency of stressful doctor & lab visits and quickly improved her bloodwork. He respectfully directs his inquiries & recommendations to the patient at office visits. He responds promptly to concerns communicated through the patient portal by the caregiver with authority under healthcare power of attorney. He patiently, but truthfully, explains the pros & cons of patient choices versus his recommendation. Though the patient does not always like what is communicated, the straightforward facts are necessary to make informed decisions.

Judgmental, unsympathetic, and rude
He is the physician for both my mother, and my ninety eight year old grandmother. When I brought my grandmother to see him, I asked to have a word with him outside of the room about her deteriorating mental and physical condition. I asked about services that we could use because we don’t want to put her in a nursing home, and more importantly, she does not want to go to a nursing home. He brushed me off and treated me like I was wasting his time. I brought my mother recently and tried to make him understand that my mother is under a lot of physical strain taking care of my grandmother, and that it’s harming her health. He didn’t care, and didn’t seem to understand why we would bring my grandmother up at my mother’s appointment. He was rude, and if you say something he doesn’t like, he just ignores you. I’m their only family and I have to work. His nurse at least gave us some options, and she was very kind.

Not rushed...takes time to explain or answer questions. He is very thorough and relies on tests and data from current visit as well as past visits. I recommend him to anyone....I found him to be very effective dealing with older patients such as I am.

I was impressed on my mother's first couple of visits to Dr. Malensek. He is prompt and very involved. Later I started to have reservations about some of his recommendations and referrals. Why should my mother need 2 ultrasounds of her heart within 2-3 months when she has a cardiologist and he didn't order any? Dr. Malensek gets caught up in quoting studies, etc. and sometimes seems to lose track of the actual issue. I mentioned I had FMLA paperwork that I would like for him to review and sign. He was upset I didn't mention this when he first came in the room. I told him I had already contacted his office via the patient portal several days before our visit. I wanted to send the paperwork prior to our appointment but they said bring it with me. Dr. Malensek said I didn't seem to be happy with anything (???) and kept saying he had things scheduled, etc. I was NOT asking him to do it then. We left and will not be back

Dr Malensek spends the perfect amount of time with his patients and make sure that they completely understand all instructions. When he comes in the room he has looked over the notes from previous visits so that he is aware of what is going on and ask follow up questions. Great bedside manner. I have recommended him to friends and family. He is a great quarterback and gatekeeper for my medical team.

Unprofessional doctor that was insulting and judgemental. His staff has poor processes in place that don’t work and is embarrassing for them. My only hope is that this review saves one patient, a business professional, from being disrespected by him. Dr. Malensek, please spend the money to update your pharmacy tracking software and office fax number for records release vs accusing your patient of being a drug addict. Shame on you as a medical professional.
