Rude, dismissive, and full of himself
He could not have been less interested in my shoulder issue. I waited a long time to see him, so to be greeted with such a poor attitude is so disappointing. He seemed bored when I was telling him about it, and actually rolled his eyes at one point. I asked him what my options were and he told me there is nothing I can do - and then offered me exploratory surgery as my only option. It's such a shame that it takes so long and so many visits to find a doctor that will help you these days. You deserve better treatment and options than this. We all do.

I can say I would never recommend Dr Karas. No sts
He misdiagnosed a tumor on my knee and declined to remove it before a knee replacement. Did not biopsy said tumor. Therefore the tumor spread into my knee cavity causing me multiple surgeries at Memorial Sloan Kettering . His neglect changed my physical activities 100 percent and prayers the cancer does not return. No remorse, apologies. Complete disregard for my health . No patient empathy .

I found Dr. Karas to be condescending, dismissive, careless and overbooked. He is always in a rush and missed a fracture on my xray after shoulder replacement surgery that caused me years of discomfort and ended up dislocating. I wouldn't recommend.

AVOID altogether!!
AVOID him! Pain Level ranged 8 to 10/10 when referred by my orthopedist who had ordered MRI of severely injured shoulder. Visit was for advice for RC tears noted on MRI. He REJECTED findings of radiologist and my orthopedist. Said BOTH were wrong. Insisted "All you have is arthritis." Recommended injection into joint. I acquiesced b/c I wanted pain relief, but when asked "What about acute pain on entire upper arm itself down to elbow?" he became defensive, angry. Raised his voice when asked if he "seriously dismissed findings of radiologist AND orthopedist" (his colleagues!). AGAIN said yes, b/c he was the EXPERT (yes, actually said that!) Such hubris! There's more, including phone conversation following my again questioning accuracy of diagnosis since I was STILL in pain weeks later. Arrogant. Shouted. Disrespectful. I ended call, got 2nd opinion from doctor OUTSIDE that practice, who ordered another MRI revealing I was right to have challenged his "findings." Have great doctor now!

Unfortunately did not have a good experience with this doctor. He misdiagnosed my shoulder pain as a frozen shoulder. Said the scan which was done at Caremount was not very good and that the radiologists report was not valid. Mind you this was a caremount Radiologist. He suggested PT and should be fine. Since I had already had PT and my condition had not improved I did not follow his recommendation. Lucky for me I found one of the best surgeons in Manhattan who had to do extensive surgery to repair all the issues in my shoulder actually two surgeons both agreed that surgery was the answer. I did not have frozen shoulder and the scans were just fine. While I have read great reviews on Dr Karas clearly not in my case. He was arrogant and condescending and could not be bothered not sure why but thankfully I had a wonderful surgeon and after much pain and PT and hard work my shoulder is doing very well!

I have seen Dr Karas on multiple occasions for a deteriorating arthritic shoulder. He has always been thorough, thoughtful, caring and has treated me as a thinking person who deserves the unvarnished truth about my condition and treatment alternatives.
