I saw Dr. Tarnell for years as a teen into young adulthood. I struggled significantly with chronic pain to which she minimally acknowledged and did limited testing on. During one visit I became tearful because I felt my symptoms were going unheard by her and my ability to complete acts of daily life were impacted....She made a suggestion that I start antidepressants and a 3rd round of PT. I would express concerns in my yearly physical and she would graze over them. Following this visit, I made the call to switch doctors. My new doctor immediately called for several blood tests showing I had an autoimmune disease and got me on TNF blocker that has changed my life. It is so important to find a provider that listens and advocates for you - Dr. Tarnell did not. This may be because of high caseload numbers, but quality of patient care should be the priority.

Lack of compassion and listening skills
Over booked and tone deaf. Checked a patient for track marks over listening and or flagrantly ignored that the patient has lab coat anxiety. Imagine going to a doctor for help and being treated like an absolute degenerate. Doesn’t go above and beyond to figure out problems and has no apparent working knowledge of women’s hormonal health symptoms. Apparently despite iterating many facts about society’s mental health at large….cannot identify burnout in a millennial patient working a 60 hour a week corporate job. She will however refer you to a therapist so she can avoid any real work related to your case

Please don’t see her
I didn’t want to write a review. I wanted to find a new doctor and move on. My conscious wouldn’t let it go. In 4 years I never saw the same nurse in the office. With each one they became more rude, rushed, and not caring. Every time I went my blood pressure would be elevated. I would tell them over and over at home it was normal. The staff and the doctor literally raised my blood pressure each time I was there. Every appointment was spent on how and when I was going to lose weight. Every symptom I had was from being overweight. She would make me come every 3 months even after I told them I paid out of pocket for the visits. I felt like Atrius was always out for money. I would fight each bill and every time something would be taken off bc it was a bad charge. Please, do not pick this doctor as your own. In fact I would stay clear of Dedham Medical all together.

I went recently to Dr. Tarnell and has a 9:35 AM appoint and sat in the room half naked and exposed for a full hour until 10:30AM! I got dressed and she came in the room and I told her I had to go back to work. Said she was behind on appointments already for the day. I told her it wasn't an excuse her office could've let me know before I left my house. Wasted a whole morning I could've been at work... working! Please don't disregard peoples time not being valuable. Already looking into switching doctors. Gave her way too many chances to make things right. But you don't leave a patient in a room waiting for an hour! When I told other people they were appalled I waited that long.

Dr. Tarnell is not my regular doctor and I have seen her a couple of times when my doctor is out. She is absolutely wonderful, caring, knowledgeable and spend ample time with me either on the phone or the office. Would highly recommend her.

Horrible doctor. Disinterested and bored with me and my concerns - but very interested in my relationship with alcohol - I don't drink and haven't in over four years. Alcohol made me tired the next day. She was fascinated and asked lots of questions - I was visiting her for a well visit and had completely different concerns - she wasn't interested in my concerns - made me think this was her issue, not mine.

I have been goung to Dr. Tarnell for years, and I can tell you she is wonderful. She is very knowledgeable, she listens, and she spends a lot more time than other doctors I've had in the past. She also responds when I contact her through the website. Such a nice person- I would highly recommend seeing for yourself instead of listening to unfair negative reviews..

She’s on her doctor high horse. Knows nothing, rude, disrespectful. Especially with the looks you receive from a so called DOCTOR. Will be writing formally to atrius Heath patient concerns. Ridiculous how a doctor can act.

Dr. Elizabeth Tarnell is a fantastic doctor who has always taken time to explain to me and answers any questions I may have. She has been spot on with any diagnosis and sent me to the right physician at the right time. Anne, her secretary is very attentive and accomodating.

She is friendly but very dismissive with any concern I have brought up. For example, she once said I need to live with my condition, instead of prescribing me the right medication or referring me to someone else. Also, she always has staff return calls instead of calling herself.
