One Sided
I guess for future patients I should leave a review. I feel as though his mind was made up before I even spoke to him for the 30 seconds we talked about my knee. When I questioned his diagnosis that differed from another Dr. on the Xray and another on the MRI, he got angry. Needless to say, I am seeking answers elsewhere.

Do not go!
I work in a chemical plant where I push pull up to 2,000lbs. My MRI showed my labrum was torn extending into the bicep. He wouldn’t talk to me until I had an Xray first. Which I already had the MRI? There’s nothing better than that and an Xray wouldn’t show anything that it couldn’t show. So right of showed he’s only in it for the money. I had a steroid shot performed 2 weeks prior to the appointment for the pain. So he couldn’t do a surgery for 8 weeks. I understand that. So he wanted me to do physical therapy until then. Kind of understand. But the kicker is he said he wouldn’t put me off work?! I informed I had a manual labor job, and I was concerned it would tear the bicep completely if I continued to work. He said maybe it would make it worse and maybe it wouldn’t. But he was not putting me off. This man from the moment I met him puts off an arrogant bravado and completely does not care for his patients health. DO NOT GO!

Dr. McDonough is knowledgeable and was always very personable with me. He listened to my concerns, found damage that was overlooked by a previous surgeon, and knew exactly what he wanted to do to address the knee. Even when, during surgery, he discovered I would be needing a replacement soon, he made the right decision to adjust his plan of action. I’m back to being active with no pain. I recommend him.

Wish I would of done more research prior to my daughter having ACL surgery. It has been over 2 years and she is still having issues. We have seen him several times and he tells her she needs more therapy. We are seeing someone else in 2 weeks and hopefully will get some answers. I do NOT recommend him! Does not have a good bedside manner either!

If I could give negative stars I would! I went to see him because I injured a knee that I had previously had surgery on last year. He didn’t listen to ANYTHING I said. He barely wanted to address another ortho problem I was referred to him for as well. He just kept saying therapy therapy therapy. And, he even said I would have to “suck it up” and deal the pain. He minimized my injury with sarcasm. He turned his back to me while I was trying to explain my injury and pain level. I left with no treatment & I will NEVER go back! I wouldn’t take an animal to him! He has the most arrogant and unprofessional attitude! I cannot believe WVU medicine is promoting this quack let alone allowing him to continue to represent what they “stand” for!

I agree with what everyone else is saying about him. He’s very unprofessional and will NOT listen to what you have to say. It’s his way or no way. It’s ashame he’s giving WVU medicine a bad rap. I have been going to WVU all my life and most of the Drs are good at what they do. I wouldn’t even take my dog to him.

Waste of time and money... insurance fraud because my insurance is paying him for bad, bad, service. I was referred to him because I have torn my ACL for the 3rd time. Never heard me, told me what “he” wants, when I questioned him and disagreed with him, he said it’s not an option. I argued with him for a few minutes and said that I’m not doing it... he said I’ll refer you to a joint specialist and started washing his hands. I said, are you going to put that in my chart, he said, yup, I already did it! I said, so you made up your mind before you even talked to me about my situation... I walked away and he shouted, have a good day! When I got to the reception desk, I filed a complaint and spoke to his supervisor... this supervisor was none too happy with him and I got the impression, this story was not the first incident. I asked for an update as to how this was going to be answered. The supervisor said he would contact me... may be a great surgeon but I don’t trust him.

He use to be nice many many yrs ago now useless. He doesn't care unless it's a sports related injury it seems and if you're overweight all he does is judge you and push weight loss surgery. I'd recommend finding a different surgical ortho dr.

I went in for a knee injury. I previously had surgery to reconstruct my ACL. I went in thinking that I re-tore one of the ligaments in my knee and wanted to confirm with an MRI which Dr. McDonough insisted I didn't need. He didn't take into account any of the things I told him about my previous operation and still blindly prescribed physical therapy and assured me there was no structural damage to my knee, which shocker, there was. Don't recommend anyone seeing this doctor. Good to see all of those years of schooling pay off for him!

I explained my history in detail during my initial visit. He didn't want to listen to my history. Then the week before my surgery I was told it is cancelled because he "was just made aware of my condition." He was fully made aware of my condition because I told him. Also, his scheduler is extremely unprofessional. Would not recommend to anyone. I wish I would have looked at his reviews before wasting so much time and effort with him and his office.

Treated me like a liar because my injury was a workers comp case. Heard him tell an associate one thing on way to visiting my office with the door open, then tell me the complete opposite. A total waste of time and would never go back to him.
