MVD Surgery changed my life
I would like to say thank you to Dr. Chang and his team, and that I am so full of happiness and gratitude and I would absolutely recommend him and his team to anyone with Hemifacial spasm that's considering MVD surgery. I think he is a very empathic person with great skills that I have full confidence in, he has answered every question and concerns I had. It wasn't only Dr. Chang that has been amazing but the UCSF staff has also been very caring and compassionate to each and every patient including myself. Before I had my MVD surgery for Left Hemifacial spasm, I was unable to sleep at night due to spasms, it affected my driving, eating, smiling and 90% intermittent. I had this afflicted condition for almost 5 years and I wish I had this surgery sooner. And after the surgery It has greatly improved my life, I can sleep, smile at the camera, and enjoy my life with my family.I pray that he would continue with his healing hands that he would continue to help and save peoples lives. <3

Dr Chang is a Rock Star!
I was so lucky to have Dr. Chang perform my recent HFS surgery. This was #2 for me - the first was over 20 years ago with another surgeon. Dr. Chang and his team were thorough and communicative during the entire process. Twitch and squeezing is gone and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome and quick recovery!

An Excellently Trained Neurosurgeon
Choosing a neurosurgeon for brain surgery is hard since only a small % of the population require their services. Luckily, I actually knew someone who had the same issue. When I tried to use the same surgeon, I was fortunate to find Dr. Edward Chang who is a neurosurgeon at UCSF. He was trained by a surgeon who trained under that surgeon. Dr. Chang was very good at explaining the situation, optimal outcome, and potential complications and side effects. He was great about explaining in terms that I could understand. He and his staff were very responsive responding to messages. Post surgery he was very good about checking in frequently during the recovery in the hospital. After discharge he and his staff made sure to schedule a few check ups to be sure the recover went well and no delayed side-effects developed. End of the long review: SURGERY WAS SUCCESSFUL WITH NO COMPLICATIONS Thank you, Dr. Chang!

A Caring, Compassionate + Exceptional Neurosurgeon
Choosing a neurosurgeon for brain surgery is no easy task. I was fortunate to find Dr. Edward Chang who is a neurosurgeon at UCSF, a top-ranked facility in the US for neurosurgery in 2022. I initially chose Dr. Chang based on a video presentation on the UCSF website. In this video, Dr. Chang appeared calm, articulate, and deeply engaged in his field of practice. I contacted him by email to request a second opinion on my tumor (a meningioma); he responded personally to my message and put me in touch with staff to schedule a consult. Dr. Chang confirmed at the consult that removal of the tumor was necessary and explained how he would approach the surgery -- including collaboration with another amazing UCSF neurosurgeon, Dr. Ezequiel Goldschmidt, who specializes in skull-base tumors. The surgery took place in November 2022 and I feel fantastic. I am deeply appreciative of the patient care provided from initial contacts through hospitalization and recovery. Thank you, Dr. Chang!

An Amazing Doctor with an Incredible Team
Brain surgery is a daunting process for sure but Dr. Chang and his team will put you at ease immediately and Dr. Chang's bedside manner (and Zoomside manner :) ) are second to none. He is one of the kindest, nicest, most caring people I have ever encountered in the healthcare system and quite frankly, is just a really good person. And the same can be said for every single person in his practice and that is part of his team. I used MyChart extensively and received very quick responses. I called the office and was able to speak with staff and I also received timely return calls, moreover, as I alreday said, everyone was extremely friendly and incredibly helpful. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Chang and cannot recommend him highly enough. In fact, my surgery was four weeks ago and I have already recommended he and his team to three people. You cannot go wrong with this exceptional surgeon who is an exceptional person.

Dr. Edward Chang brings a perfect balance of compassion and medical skill to this role as a neurosurgeon. The prospect of brain dysfunction and surgery is frightening for any patient. Dr. Chang, with both compassion and clarity, helped me understand my diagnosis and the possible treatment plans. My procedure was an awake brain surgery performed at UCSF by Dr. Chang. His surgical skills and discerning yet cautious approach to the partial resection of my brain lesion yielded the best possible result. Ten years later, I view Dr. Chang as at the top of his profession and my friend. I give him the highest praise.

Surgery by Dr. Chang with a superb result.
I had this condition where my left eye developed a twitch over the last few years. Dr. Chang came highly recommended. I was able to make an appointment and Dr. Chang took the time getting to know me and carefully diagnosed the cause of my symptoms. A MRI scan revealed the cause and that my condition requires surgery. I am happy that I am on the mend and the condition is getting much better. I expect to fully recover in the coming months. I am extremely happy with the quality of care I received from Dr. Chang and his team. I highly recommend Dr. Chang. He is a wonderful caring doctor and an excellent neurosurgeon.

MVD surgery complete success
Dr. Chang did MVD surgery for TN which I had for the last 12 yrs. Was very hesitant to have the operation but after the drugs stopped working as well as they did at first, I have no real choice. Six months ago had the operation and zero pain from day one until now. NO pain whatsoever. thank God for doctors like Edward Chang.

Laser thermal ablation surgery
I have battled with temporal lobe epilepsy majority of my life. When I was told I would be a perfect candidate for the laser ablation surgery, I couldn’t wait to have the procedure. Dr Edward Chang and his team made me feel confident and comfortable going into surgery. His work, strategy, and attention to details for my case was a big reason why I was so excited to have him as a surgeon. He is a top surgeron in this field and takes his work extremly serious. The care team was awesome as well. I was discharged a day after the surgery and never felt better. The laser ablation surgery is life changing and the recovery time has been a breeze, all thanks to Dr.Chang and his team for the amazing work he has done. They check in and are with you through this process. I will recommend Dr. Chang and his team over and over again to anybody looking into this procedure.

Laser ablation
Dr. Chang and his team are absolutely amazing. I had laser ablation done a little over a month ago for epilepsy. Just being needle phobia alone, I was terrified to have this surgery done Dr. Chang and his team made me feel so comfortable throughout this entire process. They helped me get through the prep of the surgery, even with my needle phobia, the explained everything that will happen, so there was no surprises and that kept me calm throughout it all. Dr. Chang's medical assistant is amazing. I would recommend Dr. Chang and UCSF to anyone who is looking for a life without this horrible illness and for an amazing medical team. Dr. Chang, Thank you so much for saving my life. I can now live and explore a life without epilepsy.

TMJ surgery
I had suffered from severe facial pain from a TMJ nerve for over five years. I went to UCLA and several doctors who could not help me. I went to UCSF Dr. Maggie Waung who review my case, ordered MRI's, two, and referred me to Dr. Edward Chang for consideration of surgery to correct my issue. Dr. Change explained in detail the available procedures and we decide to have an operation performed on March 15 2022 . His team was fantastic and took great care of me during the surgery in recovery up to my release from UCSF. The team maintained contact through the UCSF app and I was released to regular activity on April 25, 2022. I am completely satisfied on the results of the surgery and have not had any pain since the operation. I would highly recommend the Neurology Department at UCSF to anyone who suffers from this type of pain. Especially Dr. Edward Chang, Dr. Maggie Waung and this fantastic team.

Dr. Chang was the surgeon for my hemifacial spasm procedure, and I can't recommend him highly enough. He was patient, thoughtful, caring, and made sure I felt comfortable throughout the entire process, from consultation to post-surgery recovery. I had been nervous about undergoing a procedure before I initially met him, but during our first conversation, became completely confident in his abilities and the procedure. He took the time to answer every question I had, and walked me through every facet of the procedure. Now 6 weeks after the procedure, I feel like I have my quality of life back again, and I owe so much to Dr. Chang. He is honestly the best doctor I've ever had in my entire life.
