Life changing experience
Other reviewers have complained that Dr Cottrell made them feel bad about smoking and told them they would not heal well from surgery if they smoked. This is all true. He is aggressive about vocalizing the harm of continuing to smoke and is honest about the impact of smoking on recovery. He is also the first doctor who truly motivated me to quit smoking after many years of smoking with zero interest in stopping. His brutally honest approach was exactly what I needed to make the best decision for my health in my entire life and I cannot thank him enough. His assistance during my spinal surgery was essential as I had a number of previous surgeries that left a lot of internal scarring that complicated the procedure. Everything went smoothly and my recovery has been remarkable. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Cottrell.

Highly recommended
My family and I highly recommend Dr. Cottrell. We were referred to him from our back surgeon, Dr. Bassewitz, to assess a safe point of entry for their back surgery, given that my dad's prior surgeries could impact it. Dr. Cottrell was extremely thorough and knowledgeable, taking time to explain everything to us and answer our questions. We knew we were in safe hands with him and his decision was ultimately looking out for my dad's well-being - even if it meant going a different route. During this stressful time, we were grateful for Dr. Cottrell's expertise and his kind and concerned bedside manner, as that's more difficult to find nowadays than it should be. He treated us like a patient, not a number!

Stay away from this man, he is dangerous.
After being worked on by Dr. Cottrell, my abdomen is very much disfigured and sagging significantly down and to one side. Doctor Cottrell said it was because he cut some of my nerves in the course of the surgery and there was nothing that could be done to correct it.

Great Vascular Specialist
Dr. Cottrell correctly diagnosed an 80% narrowing of my subclavian vein when several doctors and a 5 day stay in the hospital did not find it. I was treated for everything by these doctors from a bad joint capsule to an infection requiring 2 weeks of IV antibiotics. Dr. Cottrell scheduled a Stat Venogram and found the problem immediately. I find him professional, kind, and most importantly extremely competent. I have complete trust in this Doctor. So should you.

Because I smoke he basically told me my back surgery was not going to heal and I should just go home. I still had the surgery even though he had me in tears and very upset. Back surgery went great but where he did the incision to make room for my Ortepitic doctor I have had nothing but trouble and extremely bad muscle spasms. I would never let him touch me again.
