Dr. Douglas McLaughlin, DO

Dr. McLaughlin and I have been working together for 11 years now. I was lucky enough to be placed under his care in inpatient. After having been misdiagnosed and treated improperly (medically treated, not as a person), I could tell he actually listened and wanted to tease out the right problems.I have had ups and downs over the past decade, and he has helped me stay safe. We have a great working relationship. If I tell him something is off, he listens and helps me get to where things are more stable.I never feel judged or demeaned. I feel comfortable in his care.

I met Dr. McLaughlin when I was admitted to the psych ward. He was the first psychiatrist who sat down and listened, and asked questions - the first one to communicate with me like a person with an illness, not just an illness. Even when I was having my first psychotic episode, he treated me kindly and effectively. He is always willing to work with me, if I have any questions or concerns he addresses them. I do not feel like he pushes drugs on me, but he is willing to work with me on meds.
