Dr. Douglas Hershkowitz, MD

Always treated well from the time I enter the office till the time I leave. The interview with Melissa brings out what your needs are. Then when Dr Hershkowitz comes in it a fast what's wrong and he goes over what is needed at the time. Both very professional and very understanding. I have been seeing Dr Hershkowitz for 11 years and he has been a great doctor for my needs. From office visit to surgery center both have been great. The only thing that I feel that could improve is someone picking up a phone call in the office.

I went to see him 3 times paid my co pays went through three MRI the man never explained anything to me I ask can you help me he said no. See you In a month. Why. He can not help me. I do not think he is a good doctor and I let Medicare know

Dr. Herskowitz and his staff are amazing. I drove from Lee County to see him. He got me in right away and gave me all my options. He even showed my my MRI and explained everything that was going on in my back. I chose surgery because physical therapy wasn't working and the shots only had a 30-40% chance of working. He did an amazing job! I highly recommend him and his staff!

So far I have been trying to reach the Doctor but to no avail. I called the office several times because I had an enjection from him on Monday morning at the surgery center. The next day I was to be cured but 3 days later I am not. So I called the office to tell them my problem and called Chelse and she was to get back to me. I never got the call. Her answering machine said she would. I called the next morning and got the same response, so I went to theoffice and spoke to the girl at the reception. She said That Shelsy was on maternaty it’s leave. Her answering machine never told me that . the message to Malissa. I waited I never got the call. All I wanted to get to the doctor for advise. I will try again tomorrow and suffer another day with pain. This so fustersterra ting.

I have been a patient of Dr. Hershkowitz and Melissa for over 7 years. They have operated on me more times than I can count. I have had several shunts put in(3), two of which he did on a Hail Mary because he really didn't think he would be able to do it but knew it was the only option we had to save my vision. We had already done everything else and this was a last option. Many don't like him because he tells it like it is, but that's what I like about him. His bed side manner may be rough sometimes but this man came to see me when I was admitted into the hospital on the day his wife died. Tell me how many other doctors would do this? He is the best and he has a sense of humor you just have to get to know him and his surgical skill is the best, from fixing herniated disks, to fixing fractures on my spine, to putting in shunts, he has never done me wrong.

We LOVE this guy!! My mother is a frail little 90yr old lady with crumbling vertebrae. Dr H gently cares for her with the respect a person having lived that long deserves, and does ALL he can to keep her out of pain. Dr Hershkowitz works tirelessly to provide exceptional care for all his patients. It was nothing for him to send in prescriptions at the end of his day, which typically was after midnight. And Melissa, Dr H’s right hand, cares for all like a mother hen! If there is something to be done, she’ll think of it, then find the time for it to be done! The office staff is equally compassionate and helpful from walking in the door to leaving, and the phone calls in between ~ We strongly recommend this team for anyone needing Neuro-surgical care. We are moving Mom home to Indiana and entrusting her care to any other Neuro-Surgeon is a sad task.

Find a neurosurgeon in Sarasota or Lee county. Do not see this man.

This Doctor crippled me ! He should not be allowed to practice medicine. I went in to see him and within a few seconds he told me what was wrong and was scheduling me for surgery. I went to another Neurosurgeon at Tampa General that told me (after doing more tests and xrays + my MRI) that Dr. Hershkowitz was wrong and he showed me that what Dr. Hershkowitz diagnosis was absolutely wrong and that the surgery he wanted to do wasn't going to help the problem at all. I'm 100 times worse !!!!!

This man and his team are fantastic. I couldnt ask for a better doctor. He dedicates himself like no other. His PA is outstanding, love her to death. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Hershkowitz and Melissa are the best. Had my second next fusion 3 years ago. Never felt better. December 17 had my lumbar surgery. Felt 100% better after surgery. Not feeling so well no April of 18. He tries all resources before surgery. Great doctor who really cares!! Melissa is also a very caring person who cares about their patients!! Office help is also great!!

Gotta give a shout out to this guy. Was having excruciating right leg sciatica to the point I could hardly walk. He got me admitted and treated immediately and after 2 days I was recovered to the point I could continue to recover at home. He is a very straight forward compassionate guy and his staff was great. Thank you all so much.

I have been seeing Dr hershkowitz since 2013 I was in a wheelchair for 6 months and then I was in a walker he has been so patient with me Melissa and Dr hershkowitz are amazing people their staff is very friendly. My first impression of Dr hershkowitz was not that great but he will definitely warm up to you after knowing him for all these years. I have him and Melissa to thank for helping me get out of the wheelchair and I am walking although I am not healed 100% they have been so patient

We fondly call Dr. H our miracle worker. Know of several of his patients giving him accolades for changing their very lives, including my hubby. As for me, he is helping me to get better and I appreciate him. FYI--He may not come across as warm, but he is--He is super focused and wants to do the best for his patients. He cares a great deal. My favorite Doc ever.

I owe so much to Dr. Hershkowitz, for he literally put my life back together because of an accident that caused me to incur an internal decapitation this past May. I was -so blessed- to have been referred to him for this very serious problem. Dr. Hershkowitz was very direct (which my wife and I totally appreciated) about what was going on. Dr. H. had a plan.... and we knew that we had the right surgeon. I will be -forever- indebted to this man! Forever! .... and, to his wonderful staff !!

For this appointment he doesn't show much concern on anything. He went very quick. It seemed like he was in some kind of rush. Yes, he has lot patients, but he needs to spend more time with each patient. Also, show more concern to the patient, & the family.

Was very knowledgeable about multiple shunts since I needed to have 3 all together put in over a 5 year time span. Kept me up on my progress and any new advances there were in the field concerning shunts.
