Timid and focused on money...
He approached me while I was a patient in the psych ED and stood a great distance away from me, as if I was infected! He asked about incident that led to hospitalization. I told him my account of events. He immediately said that I caused physical damage in my home 'that's very expensive to replace.' (I don't recall doing this, but I was manic and delusional). Guess what can't be replaced, MY LIFE, but he didn't seem to care much about that. I'm glad I was able to get a second opinion from a psychiatrist that actually cared (Dr. Shalomov), then allowed me to be discharged from the hospital. In Dr. Patel's world, I would have been held against my will and admitted involuntarily to an inpatient psychiatric hospital on Thanksgiving day! His qualifications are listed as child and adolescent, so maybe that's why he was so quick to admit me to the hospital? I get the impression that Dr. Patel contributes to the negative stigma related to mental health. I hope he can learn from this encounter!
