Dr. Derek Cheng, MD

He took much more time than I was expecting. He listened and clearly cared. He helped make referrals that were not directly related to the reason for my visit, but were important to my overall health. It was one of the best experiences I have had with a doctor.

He didn't really pay attention to the side effects and disregarded my comments about my 40 year long battle having taken most of the meds on the market. No seizures but no life.. I had one break-through seizure after 30 -35 years seizure free and he made major changes instead of tweaks.

Dr. Cheng is an incredibly talented and compassionate Neurologist. He has an extraordinary bedside manner, and took the time make sure I understood the treatment plan and terms of my condition. He even followed up with me to days later to make sure I was ok. During appointments he was able to synthesize complex information into terms that aided my understanding.

Cannot review Dr. Cheng low enough. Terrible bedside manner and visibly impatient, literally inching towards the door and rolling his eyes throughout appointments. Offered a life-altering diagnosis ONLY upon being asked directly, but was reluctant to answer basic questions, never mind elaborate. Prescribed severe medication, did not mention the (potentially fatal) side effects, and admitted to having no timeline of treatment or a plan as to how I would cope with this (common) affliction that I will have to deal with for the rest of my life. Made me feel that my presence was an inconvenience to him, to the extent that every person who accompanied me to an appointment felt the need to comment on it after. Once called to confront me about having asked a nurse about something he said. It was the worst experience I've ever had with a medical professional, and I would advise anyone to reconsider Dr. Cheng if they're looking for a competent, patient and/or attentive neurologist.

Dr. Cheng was excellent. I got in to see him quickly after a trip to the ER the night before. He was compassionate, extremely thorough and explained everything in a comprehensive manner. I would highly recommend Dr. Cheng.
