He told me he saw 'nothing' wrong on my MRI(as 3 other specialists did). Told me to take walks and lose weight. I again asked him why other specialists saw problems in my back, he hesitantly walked back in hall, returned and told me same. He saw nothing, go home and take walks! I DO have a crack in my disc impinging on a nerve causing great pain. Very dissatisfied with this man who is a doctor?????!!!

Awful Doctor! Totally Dismissive!!
I was referred to Dr. Kaufman by my pain mgt doc for removal of my scs. At my only appointment b4 surgery he didn't examine me, didn't let me speak, & would cut me off if I tried to talk about anything pain related. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised that my surgery was a disaster, he used a material I'm highly allergic to- then tried to deny it- was extreme rude to myself and my spouse. He lied to us, changed his story 2 different times about what he actually used. Long story short, I had to go through another surgical procedure anesthesia a few hours after my 1st surgery, same day. Tried gaslighting us by making it seem like we had no clue what material the scs was made out of- however we called the manufacturer and found out exactly & it wasn't what he stated. Now left in terrible pain with horrible scarring. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!

What is his criteria for helping a patient
Because he was so dismissive, I wonder what his criteria is for actually helping a patient who was referred to him from PCP doctor. After just a few minutes of reviewing (?) the MRI, he decided that nothing could be done. What condition would a patient have to be in to warrant a further look???

I was very disappointed with Dr Kaufmann. I waited 2 months to see him after being referred by my PCP after having an MRI and seeing another neurosurgeon. I was never asked about my history, not sure if any of my paperwork was even looked at. Dr. Kaufmann came into the exam room before the nurse had even taken my blood pressure and told me he reviewed my MRI and saw no problems. He asked me why I was there as if I just had nothing better do that day! I was never even asked to go to the exam table from my chair. Dr Kaufmann could not have been less interested in me or my questions. I feel this was a complete waste of time and made to feel as if I was interrupting him and I had no reason to even be there. I left feeling completely defeated and as if my problems were not sufficient enough for his time.

Excellent. He listened intently, reviewed my scans, let me verbalize my concerns and spent quite a long time with me. I was very much impressed with him and his nurse Mary Ellen.

Unfortunately, I attempted to contact this office following an MRI and multiple messages were completely ignored. If this message system is ignored consistently as it has been this should be closed as an option since it truly is medical negligence . Very disappointed

He was in the room for 5 minutes. Didn’t seem to listen of the pain I’m in. He didn’t feel my neck for the swelling Or location. Sent me for MRI. I went back for follow up. And same thing. In the room for a few minutes and left! He couldn’t help me. I tried to make my co pay for the office visit both times the receptionist said I didn’t owe anything. Today I get a call from collections!!! Very disappointed with the dr and office.

The experience I had visiting the Mercy office for my acute spine issue was top notch and I remain grateful for the exceptional care & thoughtfulness provided to me by the Neurosurgeon. A conservative & methodical surgeon is worth their weight in gold. Being in the medical field myself I have a strong understanding of how different specialty offices and physicians function and Dr. Kaufmann deserves 5 stars.

He was recommended by my PCP. I've had problems with low back pain for years and on my first visit to see Dr. Kaufman, he explained what his plan of care would be and in terminology that I could understand. I pt my care and recovery in his hands.

Never again will I ever see him again. I have severe foraminal stenosis which is totally debillating. Before he operated on me I asked him about that because I read it in the MRI report. He just shrugged it off. Back then over a year and a half ago I did not fully umderstandy condition. He did a two hundred thousand dollar surgery on me. He did not correct my condition. I still have the same condition even worse today. Avoid him like that plague.

The doctor spent 5 minutes in the room with me. Didn’t even do any physical exam. He had no interest in helping. He made me feel as if I was wasting his time. I was referred to him by my regular neurologist so it’s not like I was there for no reason. The RN that was with him was of more help and listened better then he did.
