I had severe intestinal pains that could not be explained by routine gastrointestinal testing. He accused me of wasting his time with, "knowledge of medical terms." Later, after being dropped by him, I received the diagnosis for a congenital hematologic disease that caused these intestinal pains. Even a first year medical student is aware of this series of diseases, which should not have been dismissed as a differential diagnosis by a specialist. In retrospect, I do not blame Kafonek for not being able to make the diagnosis but for his audacity to dismiss me as having a factitious disorder when my symptoms were genuine. Not as if inpatient admission and emergency room visits were a picnic and convenient for my schedule. He is a poor standard of care for his affiliations if he sustains this standard. Kafonek, my time is no less expensive than yours, and your actions were deplorable.
