You don’t have to settle
Dr. Eisenberg’s knowledge on endometriosis and PCOS is pretty old school, which was surprising. I had to beg him for a year to consider surgery for my endometriosis. Over that year my symptoms became so bad that I was non functional most days, which he wasn’t concerned with. He didn’t remember things we discussed in our previous appts and he was difficult to get a hold of. When surgery was finally on the table, he wanted to do ablation which isn’t the gold standard for endo. You want to get excision which is the best chance of your endo not regrowing. He was dismissive of my pain and didn’t treat me with respect. I ended up getting a second opinion from Dr. Patrick Yeung and was scheduled for surgery within a month of my first appt. Being believed from my first appt was such a juxtaposition from my appts with Dr. Eisenberg and WashU in general, it was almost shocking. Since my surgery, I have finally had relief and am feeling the best I have in three years. You don’t have to settle.

Had an air of being a good listener, but kept trying to treat me for what he thought I was there for and forgetting why I was actually there. Took notes and ran through an overview of what he'd said next steps would be at the end of the visit, and he confirmed that it was accurate - and then said he'd had completely different next steps on a follow up call. It was weird to feel so listened to from his mannerisms and so ignored by what was actually happening. The bright side is that he took his time, asked and answered questions, and went over things multiples times. The downside is he doesn't seem to be listening to the answers, or remember from from one appointment to the next.

The best thing about Dr. Eisenberg is that he listens carefully and does not rush. He is a very caring, intelligent doctor, up on all the latest in his field. The second best thing is that he has a social conscience, which not all doctors do.
